Do you need to recover files that have been accidentially erased, or removed, form your hard drive? Well, here is a free Recovery Program for your use.

Quote:Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

DisplayFusion will make your dual monitor (or triple monitor) experience smooth and painless. With DisplayFusion you can add a taskbar to every monitor that works and looks just like the Windows Taskbar. Or take advantage of advanced multi-monitor wallpaper support, Flickr integration for image searching and fully customizable window management hotkeys. These are just a few of the many things that DisplayFusion can do. Version 3.0.6 has fixed taskbar button rendering in Windows XP Classic Mode displayed a few pixels too low and also unfocused windows would sometimes not respond to their minimize button being clicked.

Deleted the photo, it didn't show up large on my computer.

FotoSketcher is freeware, above is my attempt of turning a photo of my backyard into a sketch. Download the software here and then post your results.

Do you have a flash drive that is constantly getting cluttered up with temporary files or system files from another OS? Why manually delete the mess? Automate the cleanup with USBDriveFresher. Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista. The website also has other interesting tools to download.

I did this one using an image I took in the Middle East 35 years ago.

This right-click utility is dead simple: Click any file, folder, or disk image (e.g., ISO, IMG), select the Burn to disc context menu option, and go through the very quick burning wizard. The application supports most types of burnable media (including Dual Layer discs) and skips the bloat that accompanies a lot of burning software, opting instead for a completely pared down interface and footprint. We are on the way to some very nice free programs. I just wish you could make that firs picture a little smaller, so it will fit within a normal window. That way we won't have to scroll left and right. S4

An excellent free package that allows photo/image manipulation is

Paint dot net.

There are a ton of plug-ins for it that give additional effects.

I think that is the one that Microsoft has sponsered, isn't it?

The trouble is that there are so many great image manipulation programs, that one also being one. But my favorite basic program is LightBox Image Editor. Just working with it gives the impression of driving a Rolls Royce, it is so visually enriching. Also, there are nice tutorials as well.

It's really a "basic" image editor, but for what it offers, it is breathtaking.

Gizmo Richards, of Gizmo's Best Freeware, ranks it as his favorite. he says:

Quote:LightBox Image Editor is an excellent little utility that I fell in love with after just a couple of minutes of using it. It has an attractive user interface that is simple and straight forward, and offers intuitive slide-bar adjustments for your images. It also has split screen views to help you compare your images before and after the corrections have been made. It includes simple tools to correct red-eye, sharpen, crop, re-size, add borders, and print. I likeLightBox so well I decided to upgrade to the Pro version which offers some very nice extras, but the free version is a gem that you will want to check out. This is my basic editor Top Pick!

In "another thead" I mentioned:

Mamboserver's free web software.

In simple terms, you "build" a website using their package which, as you'll see, has some similarities to a BBS package such as what AI-Jane uses.

It is free, and the on-line demo explains much of it. The great thing for an administrator is that, again similar to a board, you can give levels of "rights" to different people. You can allow someone to upload frequently changing information and the software formats it for the site. Another person could be allowed to upload images in a specific area which could be viewed by all. Neither of these people could do anything that messes up the site due to their limited access capability. They provide a "live" demo site for you to mess with.

The Mambo Gallery shows actual sites that are running under this package, so you can really get an idea what it looks like and does.

Maybe this should also be in this "free software" thread, too, since this thread may continuously be updated?

The great thing about the Mambo package is that one doesn't have to know anything about using programming code at all, and they can have a very good looking website.
I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

Do we have another Free Software thread? I thought this was the one JW. I even have it stuck at the top of the Sections page.

Incidentally, that Mambo looks nice. Thanks.

No, what I meant was that I posted the information in "another thread" - in this case the one talking about Web Designs, h e r e.

Oh, yeah, if you can set up a BBS on Forum software - IPB, Invision, SMF, whatever - you can create a very useful website.

Everyone needs a backup program, in order to.....backup their information, files, etc. Well , I just got this message from Gizmo's today, and he has a link to one of the major backup programs. And you can download the Professional version free.

Quote:Paragon Software is giving away free copies of the full commercial version of their drive backup program for a limited time on the v3.uk.co (formerly vnunet) site.

Here is the link to the product description page: http://www.v3.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2158058/paragon-drive-backup that also contains the download link and full instructions.

Here's an excerpt from that description:

Quote:"Protecting your system is relatively easy. You can schedule a backup so that it backs up your important files at either the end of every working day or week. This can be an automated process so it all happens overnight and your system goes to sleep, once the backup is complete.

"Paragon's Drive Backup is a backup tool that will backup an image of either your entire hard drive or a partition.

"Better still, with the new Hot Backup function, you'll be able to backup your data whilst you're still working on your computer, with minimum impact."

I've personally used several Paragon products over the past 5 years - both free and commercial versions, and found them to be of high quality and non-disruptive to my computers' systems. They simply do what they're supposed to do and do it well.

John already posted Advanced SystemCare Free 3.3.4 (Windows), but here is another good program to defrag: Defraggler. It can even defrag single files.

I'd like a simple backup program that can also sync files.
I back up my photos onto a USB HD with BounceBack Express. It does fine copying files, but does not synchronize them. The "Ultimate" version of the program can do that but it's $89.

If I move photo A from folder B to folder C, BBE will copy the photo to folder C but leave the one in folder B. I have to manually delete the duplicate from the backup.
A program that would sync the "Photo" folders on the two drives would be useful.

If anyone cares, I found a program (many, actually) that do what I wanted.
SyncToy 2.0 a free PowerToy program from Microsoft.
I set it for "echo" mode, and it mirrors all changes (moves, deletes, changes, etc) onto the backup USB drive.
For some reason it says it dosnt have permission to overwrite some Quicktime movies, other than that it works great.

This special is for today only!

Get $39.95 Pro Version of EASEUS Partition Master for Free

Last Update: Tue, 09/01/2009 - 13:45 — ianjrichards

Here’s another exclusive offer from Gizmo’s Freeware. Today we are offering the full $39.95 current Pro version of EASEUS Partition Master free for 24 hours from 12.01 AM Tuesday 1 September, 2009 USA Pacific Daylight Time. As part of the promotion EASEUS is also offering Gizmo's Freeware readers 20% off all its products for the rest of 2009.

Unlike the standard free edition of Partition Master, the Pro edition allows the creation of a recovery CD/DVD. This is really an essential feature in a partitioning program as disk partitioning always carries a small risk of something going wrong. A recovery CD can make the difference between having a useless unbootable machine and one that is working.

This version of Partition Master works on Windows 2000/XP/Vista 32 bit and 64 bit. The license is valid for personal use only on a single PC.

Trial Reset 3.3

I've been using this for years, just run it and it will remove all protection left behind by software vendors to prevent you from using the software beyond the expiry date.
