Obama says he intends to bankrupt the coal industry

Todd Palin is not hung like a horse... horses are hung like Todd Palin.
That's good because his spouse is probably quite roomy after 5 kids. Since the last one is of lower brain capacity, there might be a problem with his genes, however.

So, all of the traditional coal fired power plants would go bankrupt?

This would be a good thing, why?

It would mean new clean-tech coal plants would be given a boost.

No. Clean coal plants can continue to be built while we continue to reap the benefits of the traditional plants.

Maybe once we have newer power plants on line, including nuclear, we'll be able to phase out the older ones.

Bankrupting the existing system without a replacement in place is lunacy. I'm not surprised you would support lunacy, however.

Here, pick one: pollutant

It is a stretch to consider a naturally ocurring substance in the atmosphere, CO2, a pollutant, especially when only about 39 out of every 100,000 molecules of air are carbon dioxide and anthropogenic contributions to those 39 molecules is a small amount each year.

Are you serious?!? Shock

Yes. Only ongoing technologies can garantee jobs on the long run. Japanese understood that, they are at the top for hybrid car and other alternative as well and they beat flat out the US auto industry.

Gas engines are like cathodic tv tubes 5 years ago. You can still produce them, but if you didn't switch to flat screens you went bankrupt. The auto industry has to have to make this same transformation, just as any other other industries. Those who don't adapt disapeared and are replaced. Ford and GM are on the path of extinction because they didn't make the move, or they did too little too late.

Same for coal. You can use it but it has an environemental cost which make it not competitive with newly developed energy sources.
That's why trains are not fuel with coal anymore (thought in the US I'm not sure).

For John L pollutant is when ever someone questions his knowledge or view points... as in, "BY GUM, That man is an obnoxious pollutant!"

Did you know John thinks plants are polluters? Reagan used to say trees cause pollution and John is a huge Reagan fan... so it's a simple leap of faith!

when did Reagan say that plants created pollution?

He did. Sadly it's true about the plants. A lot of the pollution here in Sacramento can be attributed to trees and lawns. My neighbor has three liquid amber trees and they are the worst!

stay tuned for a link or two.

Ah, but do any of them say that the naturally occurring substance in the atmosphere - CO2 - is a pollutant?

Come on guys it is pretty obvious that trees pollute the air with oxygen allowing the parasite humans to survive who in turn ruin the atmosphere melting the ice caps and destroying the earth. It all starts with the trees. It may even be a conspiracy.
"And down through the centuries the robes have never failed to keep the public at a respectful distance, inspire a decent awe for the professions, and impart an air of solemnity and mystery that has been as good as money in the bank. The four faculties of theology, philosophy, medicine, and law have been the perennial seedbeds, not only of professional wisdom, but of the quackery and venality so generously exposed to public view by Plato, Rabelais, Molière, Swift, Gibbon, A. E. Housman, H. L. Mencken, and others. What took place in the Greco-Roman as in the Christian world was that fatal shift from leadership to management that marks the decline and fall of civilizations." - taken from a speech by Hugh Nibley

I agree, let's keep cutting them down, and make nice things with them, such as furniture, homes, musical instruments, etc. I'm all for it.

Of course, you can't ever eliminate them, because they quickly grow back, regardless what the Kooks will tell you. We just have to keep trying. Wink1

I think we've set our sights too high blaming this on trees.

Can't we go a bit smaller and blame it on Bush?

I agree - Bushes are the reason the problems exist with global buffoonery. I'm going to do my part and cut down the bushes in front of my house - I'll keep the trees a little while longer - they look nice.
