non-sequitur?

I'm just afraid Venezuela is probably impossible for us to help by sanctioning the nation. This government is willing to watch people starve and ignore it.

Not sure we have much say in that place.

Jack, I assume you are referring to this 'so called' constitutional vote that was a foregone conclusion.

It's a "non-sequitur" with regards of a mild adjustment in U.S. domestic oil output.  It's a ripple on our end pretty much a ... nano-embargo.  But it's half of Venezuela's oil exports.  For Maduro it's a death knell.

John, Yep.  It can't go any other way.  The only slot of the poll is a "yes" vote for dictatorship.  If you can find anybody in the world that supports this let me know.  Maybe the Iranians ... but I'm not sure they count.

Palladin, yes, they are operating on fumes.  They can't be helped because virtually everything that comes into the country goes to the corrupt regime.  Cut off their exports and suddenly the crooks begin to feel what all the other poor b*stards have been feeling for years.  The sooner it ends, the better.  They don't have a USSR to fall back on.  They aren't North Korea and can't depend on China. Their micro-benefactor Cuba isn't in a position to bail them out.  The only up side is that hopefully this won't fester for the next half century.  Because it's simply can't.

Thank heavens that this is well within our capacity. Can you imagine if we had remained dependent on sh*theads like this for energy stability?

Quote:Officials had said the sanctions could target Venezuela's oil sector, including possibly its state-owned petroleum company.

But after the announcement, an official said Trump's administration held off due to possible complications, including some involving subsidiaries. The official wasn't authorized to speak publicly on the process and demanded anonymity.

WTF?? Who's subsidiaries? Seems like there has to be a way to do this that doesn't crush small domestic Citgo operators. On the other hand we probably should have figured out a way to divest from something that everyone knew was coming sooner or later.

... Ug ... no wonder, there are some nasty wrinkles ... ... f*%$ing Russia!!

Ok, we need to get all this Venezuela news over on to the Venezuela thread. I believe there is going to be a lot going on down there. Madaro may not realize it but he has signed his own death warrant.

Socialism always has this way to end up in dictatorship with lots of blood and guts. But eventually it is the army and police who will make the final decision when it is time to side with the citizenry and turn against the tyrant. This is going to happen eventually, and the tyrant will not have time to sprint to the airport in order to escape.

The REAL bloodbath is about to begin down there. Shock

Sure ... but take a moment and at least consider that for once (in a very, very long time) we now actually have the option to consider an embargo/sanctions against an oil exporter ...  frankly THAT's HUGE!!

Somehow I thought we were not getting oil from Venezuela. Have I been wrong?

The post before the one I wondered about was over eight years old - then suddenly the Venezuela vote and Trump's sanction was inferred. Was there an earlier post that was deleted?

We have given them the machinery and expertise to drill, then had it all stolen. We should have no market with them.
