Virus or Bacteria?
#1
Had an interesting talk with a doctor today, what group of germs is more dangerous, virus or bacteria? He pleaded for bacteria, because there are so many more species around than viruses, and they have capabilities which viruses don't have. Such as being way more contagious, few viruses are actually transmitted amongst humans, fewer still easy. Such as becoming resistant against drugs invented to fight them. Actually, haven't heard yet that the viruses causing polio, smallpox or rabies found a way around the antiviral drugs, while bacterial infections of all sorts are making a great comeback. A greater danger to mankind than the dreaded emergence of a supervirus.
He told me that bacteria of several species are able to transform to whole different sorts of bacteria, forgot unfortunately the term and must add it later. Bacteria also have a greater arsenal of weaponry to damage organisms like us, one are toxins. The most powerful natural poison Botulinum toxin is produced by a bacteria, 2kg would be sufficient to kill the whole humanity. Amazing chemical formula, C6760-H10447-N1743-O2010-S32. I doubt they could put it together at Dow Chemical.[/url]

Bacteria can be more deadly than some viruses. But that does not rule out some viruses. An example of this. Spinal meningitis comes in baceerial and viral forms. The viral form can be a killer, but usually plays havoc with the system and then peters out. Bacterial mengitis is a true killer. It causes the body to overheat, in many cases death, and brain damage especially, follows.
