Jumping The Shark
#1
Amazing that nobody has used this for a thread title.  So, here's a starter, and if this isn't Jumping the Shark, nothing is.

Quote:NASCAR bans Confederate flag at all events and properties

Auto racing giant NASCAR said Wednesday that it is banning the display of the Confederate flag at all of its events and properties.

The announcement is sure to be controversial with a number of NASCAR fans, some of whom continue to display Confederate flags and symbols at racing events even five years after the organization asked fans not to do so.

Also Wednesday, NASCAR removed its rule mandating that racing team members stand for the national anthem.

Let's see, NASCAR is almost exclusively an Southern sport event.  And they are going to do this?  This 'bandwagon' look at things is going to come back to bite them in US Dollars.  May they rest in peace.

The networks probably threatened to stop broadcasting Nascar unless they banned the Confedrate flag.
The true purpose of democracy is not to select the best leaders — a clearly debatable obligation — but to facilitate the prompt and peaceful removal of obviously bad ones.

There was a great web site for jumping the shark about 20 or 30 years ago, which no longer exists. It rated almost every show that had a shark-jumping episode, includine the original with Fonzie. It included almost every show, and only a few ever retired gracefully: Fawlty Towrs comes to mind. I wish that was still available.
