North Korea - Japan: Charles Jenkins
A story between Japan and North Korea is ending now.

Charles Jenkins died in Japan.

Not really such a nice guy, if you ask me. He was an idiot. He should never do what he did. Of course USA dislikes him. I don't feel sorry for that guy at all.

North Korea finally let him go, the USA sentenced him only to a short symbolic jail sentence, and Japan allowed him to stay due to his relationship to a Japanese woman kidnapped by North Korean agents.

Interesting that the Japanese woman continued to live with him up to his death after able to return to Japan, they have two children.

His image in USA might be bad, however the Japanese see his life 'a little bit different' and with more understanding to his situation despite he made the wrong decision to move over to North Korea.

He was remarkably friendly treated in Japan after his arrival. How he was treated in North Korea is another matter, I don't care.
It seems US-Army was happy to get rid of him - out with him, let him go and forget about him...

Departure in North Korea / Arrival in Japan

In Japan he was working up to his death on Sado Island as a guide in a park and selling articles in a souvenir shop and he was always willing to be a photo-model for many visitors who know about him.

His story is well-known in Japan because of the kidnappings of Japanese citizens by North Korean agents.

Deserter Recalls N. Korean Hell

An article about an interview with him in 2005.
I wonder what happened to the other defectors? I think there were four of them, if I remember correctly.

There are some good articles in English, Wikipedia, explaining most of your questions.
Yohan, the video doesn't work. Could you check the link?

It is working here, but I edited it again and also copy again the link with this comment.

Is it working now with your computer/software?

Is it OK now?

It seems these two sons are the only relatives related to these deserted 4 US-servicemen who are still alive and living in North Korea.
