On advanced civilisations and natural selection

Ships at sea had crow's nests high on their masts, because the curve of the Earth blocked sight of anything about ten miles away. The higher one climbed, that farther one could see.

That is still hypothetical, because it does not concretely prove anything. For you and myself, just the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, only to reappear the next day, is good enough for us. But it still doesn't prove it.

That's the point Bill, which you can't seem to acknowledge. Spiteful

You're correct. The understanding that the Earth's surface has a provable curvature may not be proof that the entire earth follows that norm. I do know, however; that the Church taught the exact circumference of the Earth at the time Columbus wanted to sail around the world. Columbus, with his weak math skills, insisted the distance around the globe would not take too long. The Church told the Kings and Queens who turned Columbus down that there was no way to provision ships to travel the distance required. If Vespucci-land hadn't existed, all his crews would have died of thirst and starvation.

Dumb Queen Isabella made the decision that sentenced him and his crews to death, but came out smelling like a rose.
