Russia deploys new set of strategic nuclear missiles
#1
This is most interesting. Russians claim to have developed a new type of missle that can penetrate the new Missle shield that the US has developed.

However, about a month ago, I was reading about the new laser defense that is being successfully implimented by the US. The article, of which I have lost it's link, stated that the US system could accurately differentuate between the dummy and real warheads easily. I keep thinking that it has to do with the presence of radiation. I could be wrong.

However, if I am correct, does this mean that Putin has now added nuclear waste to his "dummy" warheads, so they will also emit radiation? If anyone has any links to the article I am talking about, I would love to reread it.

Russia deploys new set of strategic nuclear missiles
Sat Dec 24 2005 12:33:41 ET

The chief of Russia's strategic forces on Saturday attended the deployment of a new set of state-of-the art intercontinental ballistic missiles, boasting of their capability to penetrate any prospective missile defense, news reports said.

Col. Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov, chief of the Strategic Missile Forces, took part in a ceremony that marked the commissioning of the latest set of Topol-M missiles at a missile base in Tatishchevo in the Volga River's Saratov region.

Solovtsov said Saturday that the new missile "is capable of penetrating any missile defense system," the RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies reported.

Russian officials have called prospective U.S. missile defenses destabilizing and boasted repeatedly that Russia's new missiles could pierce any nation's missile shield.

The Topol-M missiles, capable of hitting targets more than 10,000 kilometers (6,000 miles) away, have so far been deployed in silos. The mobile version, mounted on a heavy off-road vehicle, is to enter combat service next year, Solovtsov said.

The deployed Topol-Ms have been fitted with single nuclear warheads, but officials have considered plans to equip each missile with three individually targeted warheads.

That was quick! I'd say Russia needs a whole lot more than new nukes to straighten the ship up myself. Stop dying young, have children would be a great start.

You missed my main question Patrick. Did they simply use the old system, and add nuclear byproducts to the "dummys" to make it a new means of attempting to evade detection, or is it Really a new system?

That's why I said,"That was quick"!,we don't even have a fully developed NMD,so to counter it cannot be a serious effort beyond building many dummies.

Here's another update on NMD

It was done, cause old versions of missiles were produced mostly in Ukraine in Dnepropetrovsk. Kuchma was director of plant. Today, when Ukraine decided to join NATO and NATO obtained documentation about missiles, Russia is replacing old with new one.
