Turkey's Move to Islamic Autocracy
#41
Probably the 3rd if not 2cd most militarily capable NATO power here.

One thing I will say for Muslims, they have too much self respect to ally with us if we started persecuting Muslims over here. What will the NATO west do? Avert our heads.

It would be good to just hear a lot of Christians speak up and ask,"why are we associated with "disgusting" cultures like Turkey and Saudia Arabia"?

I know it wouldn't change any policies. What it might start is a re-think among thinking Christians about our role in our secular states. Serving them is something we all need to start asking ourselves about as opposed to acting like an ancient believer(before Constantine). Just pray for the leaders, obey the laws and that's it.

There are poeple who ask this question, here in Europe (at least in Belgium and France for what I'v read). It's not something that only the poor 3 of ours think. Many poeple see the obvious.
Our politicians are already embarrassed but they have no choice because S-A and Turkey are pulling the threads.

Between seven and ten usually.  You can go to the front page and it will show you how many people have been signed on in the last 24 hours.

Others, such as Yohan, are gone for a week or so, and then come back and post for a day or two.

Mr. Thin Skin himself is at it once again.

TURKEY'S ERDOGAN CHASES CRITICS AT HOME AND ABROAD

Anybody with any common sense, should know that the more it publicly irritates a politician, the more it will be done, and if need be, behind his/her back.  Autocratic moron.

Yes, by muslim standards he's still modern and tolerant. The problem is that it worsen every month. His level will soon meet his wahhabi colleagues.

Have you ever tried the smilies before? They do a great job of adding to the personality. I sometimes forget, but try to use them liberally.

I once read an interesting viewpoint on that (may have been by the author of "The Panda Eats, Shoots and Leaves"

If I remember right, it went something like: using colloquial common terms, such as "thing", "watchmacallit", or other non-specific words in place of proper vocabulary destroys language. Using Emojis or smilies to augment poor vocabulary helps the growth of limited communication skills.

IOW: ( <--proper internet slang abbreviation) Using Emojis to help with "personality" is rationale and is an overall plus - but using them instead of proper words may help to contribute to loss of meaning. It's similar to using "Progressive" to describe Wilsonian Progressives, to the point that one needs several words to get the point across that you are speaking of "Classical Progressives", which is pretty much the opposite meaning.

That "emoji" thing is new to me.  I've always seen where the original word was "emoticon", and later "smilies" as on this software.  But they all mean the same thing.   S22

If you are using the quick post, in the open box right below the last post, the "smilies will not show on the left.  However, if you hit the "Preview" post button, they will appear with what your post will look like when you finally hit the post tab.

Now, you can make them appear if you hit the "reply" button to someone's previous post.  Or you can hit the "Post Reply" button and they will appear on the left of your post window.

To insert/post a "smilie", your cursor must first be blinking within your typing window.  It the cursor isn't blinking behind your post, you need to start that first.  Then, take your mouse cursor and move over to the particular smilie you want to use, and just click on it.  It will automatically transfer to your blinking cursor.  If you are using this new fangled setup here, it will automatically appear fully functional.  If you are using the basic form, which I do, the "html" code will show where the blinking cursor is blinking.  Each "smilie" has its own html code.  If you knew the code of the one you wished to use, you could simply type it in, and when you post, it will appear.  But just clicking on the smilies on the left will do the trick, providing you have your cursor blinking.

If you wish to import a "smilie" into something you have already typed, just move the blinking cursor up to that point and tap on the "smilie" you want to insert.

That's all there is to it.  S22   Se I just did it again.  S5   Wink, Wink.

"emoji" is the smartphone version of the "smiley". There is no difference except that on a smartphone it's called an "emoji" and on a PC, a "smiley".
Well you just need to remember the 5 main combinations: :) :D :( :wot: and :gah:

Oh and I forgot this important one: :hiney: LOL

That's probably why I didn't know.  I use my 'so called' smart phone for two things basically: talking to others, and using the bluetooth stereo for listening to my substantial music collection.   I hate texting because it is such a pain in the ass, not having an ergomatic keyboard.   Gah

Oh, I forgot, I also love the camera capability of the phone. I'm still learning how to use this 13 mp camera, which has a lot of added things to it. It too is quite nice. S22

Here's the latest, in the drive to autocracy:

Former Miss Turkey Convicted of 'Insulting' Islamist President Erdogan

Quote:A court on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 convicted a former Miss Turkey of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan through social media postings and gave her a 14-month suspended sentence, amid deepening concerns that the country is swaying toward an increasingly authoritarian form of rule.

He's so lovable, how could anyone think unkind thoughts? S18
