Well, at least it's not New Yawk.   Spiteful

Several years ago I did a dialect quiz online and the result was western New York.

One of my Father's younger sisters married and moved to a town outside Buffalo, can't remember the exact name.  When we went up to visit is when I was able to visit Niagara Falls.  I was real young, still living in Alaska, and I was astonished to learn that the falls was moving upriver due to erosion from the river.  I was spellbound, and that was what got me on the road to discovering about "How the World Works".  Spiteful

Too bad the folks across the state, in that Other Place, have never bothered to pay attention to Buffalo's nickname "The City of Good Neighbors", or they may have changed their attitude toward others.

Don't you live right across the border, a short distance away?

I live in the middle of the Niagara peninsula at it highest point, we can see the tallest buildings in the Falls.

Surprising Results From Study: Moderate Cold Kills More People Than Extreme Heat

Really, this is Common Sense 101, since we humans originated in an unusually warm environment: Equatorial Africa.  And naturally, its very warm down there, especially on the savanna, where the sun beats down on the brain.  That's why we all wore an Afro at one time.   S22

Quote:Interpretation:

We report that non-optimum ambient temperature is responsible for substantial excess in mortality, with important differences between countries. Although most previous research has focused on heat-related effects, most of the attributable deaths were caused by cold temperatures. Despite the attention given to extreme weather events, most of the effect happened on moderately hot and moderately cold days, especially moderately cold days. This evidence is important for improvements to public health policies aimed at prevention of temperature-related health consequences, and provides a platform to extend predictions on future effects in climate-change scenarios.
------
“The underlying physiopathological mechanisms that link exposure to non-optimum temperature and mortality risk have not been completely elucidated. Heat stroke on hot days and hypothermia on cold days only account for small proportions of excess deaths.

Having spent some months down at the wonderful resort of Ft. Benning, during the summer, and with constant Class IV heat alerts, none of us ever had a heat stroke as long as we drank plenty of water.  Be we sure did sweat gallons of fluid.

Blacks are at a decided disadvantage in cold climate, because they are genetically not set up for that.  That's why their skin is dark, among other things.  Even their noses are unable to keep their sinuses warm, because they are just too big/open.  The US Army did a detailed study of this right after the Korean War, and this has been common knowledge for decades now.

This guy had absolutely no business going out in this Gawd-Awful cold weather.  They said he had three pairs of gloves, but didn't say what they were.  One should have been a liner, the next a glove, and the outer one a Mitten, large enough to cover it all comfortably.  I'll bet he didn't even layer himself as he should, because he knew practically nothing about cold weather survival.  Jeeze!   Gah

Actually I'll be willing to bet you that he started out fully laden all over, and did a lot of sweating, which soon added to the cold.   I'll bet that is what really got him.  Had he started out lighter and then added as required, he would not have gotten so cold, from all the sweat.

And I'll bet you he overlooked the one single area where the most heat is lost: his head. Winter Survival 101.  Spiteful

Huh?

We are ALREADY in an Ice Age. What they should have said was renewed GLACIATION ,to denote the increase in snow, ice and cold weather over large areas.

Currently we are in the waning days of the INTERGLACIAL period,or known as Holocene.

No, no.  I wasn't sure if you were echoing me or poking fun.   After all, what you stated was the unadulterated fact.  I'm just surprised that almost everyone on both sides of the argument are unable to figure out the facts.  Either that, or the facts don't really matter to them.

Oh, and this is the seventh day that there have been NO sunspots on the sun.  Actually ten days if you don't believe that sorry excuse of NASA's attempt to fudge on the 4th of January.  Otherwise, it would be really ten days.

Ice circles are back in the news once more. But this time the Daily Mail has gotten the location wrong. Instead of it being filmed in Michigan, this one in the video is from Washington State.

And the Telegraph did get it placed correctly: This rare 'perfect circle' of spinning ice is hypnotically beautiful. Regardless, it certainly is beautiful to behold. S22

I'm going to have to take that back a little. The Daily Mail actually got their Michigan location correct, BUT they added the wrong video which was from Washington state. Here is the Michigan video.

Get ready New England, the cold weather defecation is about to strike the rotating occulater.

Blizzard conditions, feet of snow to bring New England to a standstill by Monday

Quote:In some areas, this will be the second storm in less than a week to unleash a blizzard and over a foot of snow.

Behind a weak system that returned snow to New England to start the weekend, a second and more potent storm will follow late on Sunday into Monday.

At this time, the corridor expected to be in the bulls-eye of heaviest snow will be portions of central and eastern Maine, including Bangor and Bar Harbor.

"The storm has the potential to bring 1 to 2 feet (30 to 60 cm) of snow to parts of central and northern New England and parts of the Maritime Provinces of Canada," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

Locally higher amounts can occur in parts of central and eastern Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Somehow I meant to comment on this and then forgot to get around to it.

If you look at the Makenkovitch Cycles, there are three of them that for some reason unknown to the AGW crowd, the shortest of these cycles is Axial Precession.

Since Axial Precession lasts 23,000 years for the earth's tilt to move completely in a 360 degree circle, if this circle is divided into the 23,000 year cycle, it comes out to 63.8888, or 64 years for a one degree shift.

Now the Inuit live in the Arctic, where there are very few landmarks, so the sun is the most relied upon mark of all.  Therefore, any deviation from the current position will be noticed over time.  And since the Inuit have one of the most precise 'oral traditions' it would go back hundreds of years, with special tribal members keeping a mental record of all this.

Consequently just a 5 degree variation would change the heavenly road map for these people. So, we can multiply 64 years by 5, and this change would occur in just 320 years.  No wonder they would be concerned about a shifting sun.  There is absolutely no way the Inuit wouldn't be aware of this change.
