Euros Finally Waking Up?
Quote:Unesco removes 'racist' Belgian carnival from heritage list

Unesco has removed an annual carnival in the Belgian city of Aalst from its heritage list over persistent charges of antisemitism.
In an unprecedented move, Unesco’s intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage said it was withdrawing the carnival “over recurring repetition of racist and antisemitic representations” at the event.
The carnival of Aalst, in the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders, was initially added to Unesco’s list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2010. But the presence of a parade float caricaturing Orthodox Jews with hooked noses and sitting on gold bags outraged Belgium’s 40,000-strong Jewish community.

The true purpose of democracy is not to select the best leaders — a clearly debatable obligation — but to facilitate the prompt and peaceful removal of obviously bad ones.

Ya think they may have gotten a little carried away?

But Belgium is such a progressive country.

Okay, what did we just see? A parade with dancing leotard wigglers with lampshades on their heads? If they were acting out some historical tale, it's nothing I ever heard about. Maybe the song explained things.

If there was a float about the Grinch at Christmas at Hooville, it would be like this - but we'd know there was some magical ending that gave a good moral. There is a possibility that the "Hooked-nosed Jews sitting on bags of gold" represented something else. I don't know.

People don't get what the Carnival is, and our progressive are the last to understand.
Carnival is THE day when you can make fun of everything without limitation or restraint. Especially about the things which are taboo all the other days of the years.
So you mock the Jews, the Blacks, the elderly, the local peasants, the poor, the rich, the religious... But you must do it in a extremely comical manner, not a propagandist way. This is just ONE shocking theme among a dozen of others. And nobody felt shocked because before it and after it they were many other things you could argue about if you wanted.

So this is "Purge" day?

Yeah, sounded like it to me, too.
I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!
