Is Pope Francis Digging Himself Into A Hole?
#41
Tait,

Here's some proving I'm right on US based persecution and the Anglicans had their day screwing folks like me. Just didn't have the free hand of 800 AD Pope is all.

That one guy I mentioned, Batolome Las Casas? Check him out, he is a man's man and among the bravest of men.

He was a wealthy Spaniard who came to see the "disgusting" Spaniards were perping in Latin American against the Indians. He originally was becoming wealthier due to it.

After his moral conversion the pope appointed the man as a Bishop in Mexico to stop the "disgusting" and he nearly got murdered. They did everything they could to stop the Spaniard brutality driven by extreme greed.

It was uncontrollable, just like southerners using black folks for our greed. No southerner could have spoken out w/o violence either. Good old Baptists mostly. Neither case did the brutes reference their religion, they operated in anti thesis of it.

Palladin, did you ever see the 1986 movie, The Mission, starring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons, Ray McAnally, Aidan Quinn, Cherie Lunghi and Liam Neeson? It featured a Spanish Jesuit missionary in the South American jungle who truly takes the natives to heart, converts them and then stands with them against the greedy Spanish and Portuguese officials who want to conquer and enslave the natives. The Jesuit missionary even stands up against his own church. It is one of the few movies where a Jesuit priest is presented in a good light. Apparently the movie is based on historical events surrounding the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, in which Spain ceded part of Jesuit Paraguay to Portugal. Because it is historical and realistic, it has a somewhat downer ending--which is why I have never watched it again. But in this portion of history, the Jesuits were real heroes. Here is a link to a Wickipedia article about the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mission...86_film%29

I haven't, but, Bartolome Las Casas deserves the respect of all humanity, especially Christians. He lived like Christ did as much as a human can when his station in life was the upper class.

What we haven't realized is lots of the bad stuff was opposed by Popes, it just isn't as simple as I used to see it myself. They've done their bad, I honestly believe we all would with too much power.

There are actually tons of Catholic saints that have risked their necks serving God. The first Indians converted here were evangelized by French Catholic priests in your area before an English speaker knew this place existed.

I hope so, he has made the critical error of trying to form a nexus between Christ and Caesar. Christians constantly seem determined to make this same error.

Message to the church, Jesus does not work through Caesar with the sole exception of controlling crime rates!!! This goes for the lefty and righty who want Caesar to serve functions outside that biblical mandate.

Previously, his commentary about the poor and the church's responsibility were biblical. If he doesn't watch out, he will pontificate the end of the denomination with his blindness here, he's about 75 years behind the times in this trash.

BTW, I read the other day of a debate among capitalists , those who followed the Adam Smith model and Ayn Rand model.

They say Smith's view included enhancing wealth so you could help others and of course we know Rand's ideas. Are you familiar with how Smith might critique our model today? Did it involve public policy or just a call for private philanthropy?

I haven't really studied the contrast between Smith and Rand. I don't know about Smith's religious beliefs, but I do know Rand's. She was a G-dless Ashkenazi. And that's mainly why I don't use her as an example for my beliefs.

Smith was a believer. He pursued capitalism as a vehicle to make life better for all,not just the individual entrepreneur.

Seems to me the only way for us to do well is private benevolence.

Here is another example showing just why in the end, Christianity will triumph over Islam.

He Was a Muslim When He Claims Jesus Appeared to Him in a Dream. What Happened Next Had His Family Threatening to Kill Him.

Yea, Ron and I have books on this subject.

Jesus is bypassing evangelists/missionaries in some cases, dreams have become so prevalent within the Muslim people that in Cairo, there are often ads in the paper like this," IF you are having dreams about Jesus, call this #".

The local Christian then fills in the blanks for the searching Muslim. It's happening all over the world, not just Egypt.

BTW, as sad as it is to report, many of we Christians don't "get" that virtue love is what God is about as opposed to punishment. The church has a long way to go to get to know God properly, IMO.

John,

I think that guy's antagonism to the Pope's humanist politics makes him quite attractive to me, although I was being hyperbolic with my "POTUS" comment.
