Way too bizarre for me.... That it came from some processes that preceded Earth makes some sense, but specifically which ones is wild guessing.

My guess is that this is not the only way heavy elements are created. Most likely supernovas and the fusing of elements create all sorts of heavy metals, which are the main ingredients of later star systems. And the more these star systems go through the supernova process, the more heavy metals present in the following generation star.

That's why we are virtually certain our star system is at least a third generation star. It could be more though.

Concur, and there might be other processes which we know nothing about now.

But why 3rd generation? 2nd is good enough (perhaps with dust collection from other systems).

Doesn't that essentially rule out life on Mars, except for the most primitive forms? 4B years is the time in which life on earth began, as I recall.

So how long ago was it that there was a huge amount of water on the surface of Mars that scoured out the Mariner Valley? Couldn't have been that long ago. And that would certainly have had a profound affect on the atmosphere. Their basic assumptions are throwing off the conclusions from the results of their tests. Why bother to do science if you are just going to be dishonest, and impose your preconceived ideas on what you find? What they accuse Creationists of doing, is what they are really the ones doing.

Its that time of year again. From SpaceWeather.com

FIRST PERSEIDS OF 2013: Earth is entering a broad stream of debris from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, source of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Although the shower won't peak until August 12-13, when Earth hits the densest part of the stream, the first Perseids are already arriving. "Despite poor weather over our network of meteor cameras, we detected three Perseid fireballs on July 30-31," reports Bill Cooke, head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. He made this plot showing the orbits of the meteoroids:

In the diagram, the green lines trace the orbits of Perseid meteoroids. All three intersect Earth (the blue dot). The orbit of the parent comet is color-coded purple. An inset shows one of the fireballs shining almost as brightly as the Moon: video.

The shower is just getting started. Rates should remain low for the next week as Earth penetrates the sparse outskirts of the debris stream, then skyrocket to ~100 meteors per hour as the calendar turns to the second week of August. Stay tuned for more fireballs

Here's something else of interest to comet lovers: Comets Could Arise Closer To Earth, Study Suggests.

Quote:There’s a potential “cometary graveyard” of inactive comets in our solar system wandering between Mars and Jupiter, a new Colombian research paper says. This contradicts a long-standing view that comets originate on the fringes of the solar system, in the Oort Cloud.

Mysteriously, however, 12 active comets have been seen in and around the asteroid belt. The astronomers theorize there must be a number of inactive comets in this region that flare up when a stray gravitational force from Jupiter nudges the comets so that they receive more energy from the Sun.

After all this time, I would suspect that almost all of the original cometary debris originating here would have moved. It seems more likely that a goodly number of comets were captured as they made one or more passes around the sun. But that's just my guess.

And for all the pin head geeks of the universe, try this thought: Could We Move The Sun??





I've been racking my brain on this thought for a short while now, and for the life of me cannot see any worthwhile reason for going through the process. All I could come up with was the possibility that when the Andromeda Galaxy is to collide with the Milky Way, one of its stars may be predicted to collide with our sun. But that's about four billion years away.

Impact 12,900 BP?

Actually, this is quite close to the Atlantis date.

Its possible, but it has far more significance. Its the Clovis Comet Impactor, which brought back the ice age for another 1Kplus years. Scientists call it Younger Dryas, and we have a thread on this somewhere in the Science Section.

Some folks have been doing their best to discredit this impact, but the evidence just keeps adding up. And the science is also showing that there was a sizable European human incursion into North America before this, which was pretty much wiped out due to this Impactor. NA natives obviously didn't come from just Asia through Siberia.

I really need to resurrect the Clovis Comet thread and bring it up to date.
