Poor little cat didn't have its claws out, so it wasn't in attack mode. Looks like a mother cat trying to move a kitten by the nape of its neck. Maybe trying to move the doggie to a safer place?

Perhaps the cat moved the dog out of harm's way as a piano fell out of a third-floor window and hit right where the dog was laying.
