Will the Rats stick with Hagel?

Levin has squashed the GOP request for additional documentation which might well have tied Hagel to Hamas. The question is, will Obama get his way and drag his party into the crapper with a problematic choice to run the Pentagon? I keep seeing references like "put a fork in he's done" but with the exception of Rice, I don't see much evidence that the White House has much of an inclination to back down ... I guess we'll see.

That hamas possibility is weird. I don't get why Obama would waste his time supporting Hagel once that was known if it's accurate. There are probably 100 guys as or more qualified. Creating more hostility is hardly leadership when it can be avoided.

The main purpose of Hagel's appointment is to carry through large defense cuts.... having a complying Republican, especially one who is close to at least some GOP members of the Senate, will help diffuse the criticism.

There are not too many similarly suitable candidates.

Also, some fresh Hagel stuff:

He's used to getting what he wants ... and he's used to the GOP rolling over and showing it's soft underbelly. In this case, he's expecting his own party to eat a big pile of sh*t. Gotta wonder just a little bit about their appetite ...

If sequester stands, this seems like it would be a moot point. Pretty low odds given the apparent lack of spine ... but maybe worth a happy thought or two ... at some point the GOP will get tired of blocking with it's face ... hey a guy can hope ... right?

I don't think sequester will happen but defense cuts are certainly in plans anyway.
And even in case of sequester Obama would want to cut on GOP-friendly suppliers, Hagel will do this.

Now, the bonus question: what is more dangerous: Hagel at Defense or Brennan at CIA? (Brennan is said to be a convert to Islam)

Both are on hold ... for the moment. Hagel has the obvious outlined problems. Patreus was apparently torpedoed by his own because he was purportedly intent on running the CIA like the Army. Brennan is a proponent of running it like (a robo version of) the Air Force. A rational executive would ditch them both and start over. But do you suppose this will occur? Your question is kinda like asking if it would be worse if the Earth were hit by one world destroying ASSteroid or two?

Sequester is like an acid soaked life vest. The GOP can embrace it and get badly burned ... and survive ... or decide to keep treading water ... and eventually go down. Bob Woodward (of all people) is offering a helping hand ... and they should take it.

nay, I was asking which of the two approaching asteroids will cause more damage. With our luck we will get hit by both.

here is a funny thought: comparing with these two, Kerry looks good.... what a fiddled up world... S4

Kerry is starting to look like a world class super genius ... how f*cked up is that? And Hillary Clinton is starting to look like "Wow!! I coulda had a V-8!!" ... which seems suspiciously staged ... until you consider the Clintons MO in general ... and then really not so much.

Regarding your earlier charges of Brennan's 'conversion' .... if it was to Shia it would dovetail perfectly with Hagel's world view ... which would explain A LOT!! S5

No, it seems like he is a Sunni per WND and Salon.

Perhaps he is to balance Hagel? S6

Hagel is not a neo-con. This is a positive development if he manages to go anywhere in this. I am sure Israel will be super offended though if he does, and this may ultimately squash things for him.
