Quote:Former President Ronald Reagan's childhood Chicago home set to be demolished and turned into parking lot for Obama's Presidential Library

The Chicago home where the late President Ronald Reagan grew up is slated to be demolished and potentially turned into a parking lot for President Obama's Library, it was revealed today.
The home, at 832 E. 57th Street, was where Reagan survived a near-fatal bout of pneumonia in 1915 and he has written fondly of playing in the Hyde Park neighborhood with his brother and others.
But the University of Chicago has recently purchased the apartment building and they have announced plans to raze it and make it a parking lot.

Oh, it was an apartment building. Reagan grew up in an apartment? Somehow that does not seem like as big a deal as if it were a stand-alone home, that might have been declared a national monument. You can't very well declare an apartment a national monument. But it seems obvious that someone at the U of Chicago is an Obama fan.

I don't recall any other U.S. President growing up in an apartment. It says something about what the guy accomplished in his life. Most were born into wealth ... and then went back to it after their term or terms were up ... with the exception of Truman who ended up basically subsisting on government assistance after he left office.

Grant didn't do well financially after his Presidency either.

Yeah, but he at least he had enough self respect to avoid having pension legislation passed specifically on his behalf to keep him out of the gutter. Truman made history by being the first President to require an executive version of food stamps. Now the same funding is used for stuff like office stationary and postage expenses for the Clintons and Bushs ... go figure eh?
