On the Brilliant Media front .,,
Tom Friedman got PowerLine's Green Weenie award for the week.

Apparently he wants to make sure we "get it right" on the natural gas boom. Which is apparently a euphemism for squandering the largest competitive advantage we've had in decades in favor of a deliberate handicap.

Here's what has put is tits in the ringer. What a horrible shame if the U.S. loses the race to failure eh? You just have to wonder how long these compulsive turd polishers can stay on stage before the big hook comes out and pulls them back behind the curtains.

I like this part of Friedman's article:

Quote:That is the question — because natural gas is still a fossil fuel. . . there is a hidden, long-term, cost: A sustained gas glut could undermine new investments in wind, solar, nuclear and energy efficiency systems — which have zero emissions — and thus keep us addicted to fossil fuels for decades.

That would be reckless.

Fossil fuel my ass! Where in hell did all these fossils come from in order to produce so many hydrocarbons?

Earth to Friedman, Earth to Friedman, there were not nearly enough dinosaurs and plants throughout history that could have produced anywhere near the quantity of natural gass or oil. It all came from deep within the earth, and was produced by subduction of carbon, and reacted under extreme pressure and heat. Duuh!

Friedman is so 20th century on this one.

NOTE: The second link does not work.

Works fine on my end. It's a CNN article titled "Why China is losing the solar wars" (Aug 2nd ... Bill Powell) ... they are losing because, regardless of their investment .. and all the cash that Obama has thrown into subsidies, it's a technology that STILL can't compete ... even with one hand tired behind carbon based fuel's back ...

To paraphrase Friedman ... it would be 'reckless' to NOT to bankrupt yourself chasing a fading pipe dream ...

This has to be unimaginably worrisome for Friedman and the green crew. It's one thing to blame the Solyndra debacle on Chinese competition. It's quite another when the Chinese themselves begin to acknowledge that it's a profitless venture. The logic involved in continuing Friedman's bogus argument stretches the "and then a miracle happens" justification mentality well beyond it's point of rupture. As such, he's entered into an entirely new territory. The realm of Psudomomics.

.. oh who am I kidding?, he's been parked there for quite a while.

I just went through that link about China's solar collapse. What a mess. And because it is a State sponsored industry, the central planners are not going to pull the plugs until it is thoroughly gone. I hope nobody bought stock in those Turkeys.

I wonder if Samsung is interested in it all? They emerged the big winner in the DRAM sweepstakes. Someone is eventually going to win big here, but not the way everyone is going about it.

My guess is that it is still going to be in solar shingles, which will be an individual thing, more than a collective endeavor.

They're about economic growth and strategic advantage ... not green ideology ... (have you seen the air quality in some of their cities?). There's no way they would continue riding a loser that's auguring into the dirt ... at least not the way Obama and Freidman want to.

Solar thermal is pretty competitive, reliable, and it works at night too ... but you really don't hear to much about it. The people in that industry must not be very big political donors ... good for them! S5

Tell that to Preston Tucker. Forces (government, unions, lobbyists, campaign donors, the brilliant media, scientists trying to keep their grant money coming ... etc ... etc... ) converge to promote lots of bad ideas ... we see that all the time ... what leads you to believe they can't wreak havoc on the good ones?

They would be if the buggy whip unions had had just a bit more clout. And can you imagine the ongoing carnage if the International Brotherhood of Razor Strop workers would have collected just a little more in the way of membership dues? Seriously, if good ideas were the order of the day, our port traffic would have long ago been fully automated and the envy of the modern world ... and guess what? It ain't ..

And in today's "Why Do I Even Bother" category, I am again confronted by reality via Tommy's posting. The Media is so blatantly biased that all but 27% still believe the Media to be anything but biased. And that is why I accurately describe them as nothing but the very Whores they really are. But while these percentages are encouraging, it is frustratingly obvious that there are actually one in four citizens, on the street, who still believe them to be fair and balanced. That is the Real Mystery here.

Case in point: How the Networks Help the Democrats’ Distraction Campaign.

Quote:According to the Media Research Center’s analysis:

Quote:* During the first 72 hours of the Akin controversy, ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening news shows ran a combined 40 segments totaling nearly 89 minutes of airtime compared to less than 20 minutes for Biden.

* NBC and CBS both immediately attempted to link the “firestorm” created by Akin to Romney even though his campaign openly supports rape exemptions.

* Obama’s extreme pro-abortion record – including his support for partial birth abortions – was almost entirely ignored by the networks in 2008.

* The networks have given Akin 10 times more coverage than they gave to credible allegations by Juanita Broaddrick back in 1999 that Bill Clinton actually committed rape.

Media Research President Brent Bozell reacts:

Quote:There’s no denying that what Rep. Todd Akin said was completely inappropriate, but for it to receive four times more coverage than the Vice President of the United States’ indefensibly racist gaffe is unconscionable. Todd Akin is a congressman. Joe Biden is one heartbeat from being the leader of the Free World. Once again, the media’s double standard is exposed for all to see.

The liberal media will do anything (except report on Biden’s unrelenting stupidity) to avoid Telling the Truth about Barack Obama’s horrendous economic record. This has been the liberal media’s playbook throughout the campaign. If it hurts Barack Obama’s chances of re-election, ignore it. If it hurts his Republican rivals, give it four times the coverage.

The real question is,...........how can any group of 'so called' professionals be so blindly one-sided and still claim to be smitten with any attribute described as common sense?

Here is a Classic example of why the Whore Media is not just the Whore Media, but the 'Stupid' Whore media: NYT's Abramson rebuts Brisbane charge. They will never 'get it' because they are not intellectually capable of 'getting it'.

And even when one of their ranks finally starts having it sink in to his/her thinking, they have to do the one thing that makes them remain clueless. They have no alternative but make like a tree......................... S13

Quote:The executive editor of the New York Times is disputing an accusation of liberal bias made by her very own public editor, Arthur Brisbane.

In his final column for the Times, Brisbane wrote that his fellow staffers "share a kind of political and cultural progressivism" that "virtually bleeds through the fabric of The Times." Brisbane even argued that Times reporters approached some liberal issues, like gay marriage and the Occupy movement, "more like causes than news subjects."

But Times executive editor Jill Abramson says she disagrees with Brisbane's "sweeping conclusions."

"In our newsroom we are always conscious that the way we view an issue in New York is not necessarily the way it is viewed in the rest of the country or world. I disagree with Mr. Brisbane's sweeping conclusions," Abramson told POLITICO Saturday night.

"I agree with another past public editor, Dan Okrent, and my predecessor as executive editor, Bill Keller, that in covering some social and cultural issues, the Times sometimes reflects its urban and cosmopolitan base," she continued. "But I also often quote, including in talks with Mr. Brisbane, another executive editor, Abe Rosenthal, who wanted to be remembered for keeping 'the paper straight.' That's essential."

Brisbane declined to comment on the column, his last as he concludes a two-year tenure as the paper's in-house critic. "I would rather let the column speak for itself," he told POLITICO.

And note the referral to Abe Rosenthal, the last captain of the good ship "Old Gray Lady" who knew what he was doing. They conveniently forget his lessons(The Rosenthal Rule) and how he kept the ship moving forward(pun intended here).

I'm still taking bets on just how much longer the NYTimes is going to remain afloat.

John Nolte, over at Breitbart.com, shows us one more reason why the Media is committing suicide: Era of Media Fact Checkers Intimidating Republicans Is Over. All it really takes now is for the GOP to actually grow a spine and start fighting back with gusto.

And there is also this from RedState.com: Press Fact Checkers: Lemmings To Their Own Death.

Quote:The press really is beclowning itself this election year. Like lemmings off a cliff, the press is running to its own ignoble death at the hands of an American public tired of spin and lies.

The last forty-eight hours clearly demonstrate the American press corp and Team Obama are working hand in hand to drive a narrative designed to advance Barack Obama’s re-election. From claims of racism related to the GOP to Paul Ryan’s supposed lies, the media is really self-destructing.

David Harsanyi has the one must read of the day on this subject and he gladly calls out a few of the bullcrappy fact checkers too.

Quote:Democrats are energetically attempting to create the perception that Republicans — specifically, Paul Ryan — are running around Tampa making stuff up about Barack Obama (as if that’s necessary). And when I say Democrats, as regrettably cliché as it may sound, I also mean the mainstream media.

The following assertions, for instance, are true:
-Obama did cut over $700 billion from Medicare to fund Obamacare.
-The stimulus was a case of political patronage, corporate welfare and cronyism.
-The Janesville, General Motors plant was closed down under Obama (though Ryan made a more nuanced assertion that we’ll cover below)
-Obama did blow off the bipartisan debt commission.
-Obama’s waivers do allow for the relaxing of work requirements in welfare reform.

Go read the whole thing and note that my reference to lemmings is very intentional.

In the 1950′s and 60′s some very bad reporting on the behavior of lemmings got picked up by the press, expanded by Walt Disney, and the fact checkers of the press treated the idea of lemmings running off cliffs as truthful for a very long time.

The damnedest thing to it all though is that the media does not get it. They really do believe that press fact checkers are really checking facts and conservatives who complain have trouble with the truth. As David notes though that’s not true. Consider Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post’s in-house fact checker and apologist for Margaret Sanger and the eugenics movement. Kessler “gave Republican groups knocking Obama for not visiting Israel Two Pinocchios…. You realize, I’m sure, that it is an indisputable fact that the president has not visited Israel, but Kessler was unimpressed by the ads.”

The fact checkers are not checking facts, they are spinning. And the media, which is no longer respected by the American people, has abdicated the fact checking role it consistently refused to do to a group it created. The media’s fact checkers are propped up as arbiters of truth when they just still promote the media’s own bullcrap, just this time with a “truth” label stuck to it.

And if this isn't enough, here is more: MSNBC's O'Donnell: McConnell Racist For Saying Obama Golfs A Lot. These people are beyond nuts; they need serious help from therapy.

And also note the blatant Projection coming from O'Donnell. He doesn't even realize that he is talking about himself and the Left, in such an open manner. Its amazing how these people reveal themselves so much for all to see.
