Are We Headed Into Another Little Ice Age?
I lived in Victoria, across from Seattle for seven years, it only snowed twice during that period. The temperature rarely went above 80F in the summer and below 38F in the winter. The evenings were cool during the summer, I always had two umbrellas, one at home and one in the car. Rain is a minor inconvenience, you don't have to shovel it.

Every time I think about that dormant volcano, la Cubre Vehuiah, on the island of La Palma, Canary Islands, I picture what it will be like when the side of the volcano calves off and falls into the ocean.  The tsunami wave is going to be terrible, and I don't want to be around, anywhere near the East Coast when that happens.  Shock

Earthquake swarm detected under Cumbre Vieja volcano, Canary Islands

Cumbre Vieja Volcano -- Potential collapse and tsunami at La Palma, Canary Islands

This is La Palma, and Cumbre Vieja is the mountain with all the craters.  The west slope is facing downward, in the direction of North America.  Under the mountain there are huge vertical tubes filled with water, and offer no friction when the side of the volcano collapses into the ocean. All that water will be a lubricant for the side of the mountain sliding away.

Here is one of the many "fault scarps" on the west side of the volcano, where the mountain has been splitting since 1947, and they are getting wider all the time.  It hasn't begun to drop yet, but it is still separating, and there are continuous earthquakes on the location.  All it will take is for just one part to slip into the ocean, and we will have one of the biggest and most dangerous "Long Runout Landslides", which will displace tremendous quantities of water, forming a huge tsunami that has never been seen in recorded history.

There are several natural things that I find disturbing, and this is one of the biggest. I have had a few bad dreams about the horrible event.  Millions of people will die as a result.  There will be some warning, but it may not be enough. Also, the Big Island of Hawai'i has a large fracture like this one, but I think this one is more dire. Besides, I live on the East Coast, so it would directly affect me.

I would not call any part of the state of Washington Paradise. I lived north of Spokane for over a year. Lots of snow, one winter the temperature got down to 30° below zero F. But even in the Seattle area (I lived there for a few months in the summer, and visited during the winter), the temperature may be more moderate, but it rains all winter! The Olympic Peninsula is a rain forest! I read that the suicide rate in Seattle is the highest in the nation--people become so depressed during the unrelenting, gloomy winter! Sure, you don't have to shovel it. But sunlight is a seasonal memory. And our bodies need sunlight! The central valley (Yakima area) is supposed to be good for growing apples.

Never said anything about "paradise", here is my comment again:

Quote:South Eastern Washington state, the mighty Columbia river just 1 1/2 miles north of my place. Been in the area since 1964 for all but  1 1/2 years In Seattle area. Never gets floods since it is a tightly controlled River, some times it gets into City parks a little but ZERO homes gets flooded by the Columbia.

Even the Thunderstorms are weak during the warm part of the year.

The area I am in gets little snow, ZERO Hurricanes and Tornadoes, little rain, low humidity in the warm months.

Even the Italians are starting to "Get It!".

Quote:"Matter of months" for a "mini ice age": very little solar activity could really produce record temperatures for the Earth

Something unusual, but perhaps not so unusual on a large scale, is happening to our sun . In fact, it is expected to meet its solar minimum around 2020 , but it seems that this could happen sooner. At the moment the lack of sunspots, characteristic of the solar minimum, could bring record low temperatures, but some experts suggest that it could even produce a " mini ice age ". The chances of this happening seem subtle at first glance, but let's analyze some more information.

We are currently living in the 24th solar cycle recorded. What is believed to cause a mini ice age is a prolonged solar minimum, ie an extended period of time when the sun does not have sunspots in the minimum activity of its cycle. The last time a prolonged solar minimum was recorded, a mini ice age really occurred and was called Minimo di Maunder . This period lasted from 1645 to about 1715 , so more or less 70 years. In these 70 years, sunspots became extremely rare.

From spaceweather.com they claim that sunspots have been absent for most of 2018, to the point where they feel that a reaction is coming from the upper atmosphere of the Earth which, in turn, could produce these temperature differences. " It could happen within a few months . If current trends continue, a cold record in the space age could soon be established , "said Martin Mlynczak, of NASA's Langley Research Center. Speaking of the potential wave of cold that could reach us, Mlynczak said that " we are not yet close ", but a matter of months is not so long.

The data obtained from NASA's TIMED satellite (Thermosphere Ionosphere Energetics and Dynamics) demonstrate that the upper layer of the air surrounding the Earth, known as the thermosphere , is shrinking and cooling , literally decreasing the radius of our atmosphere. From all this could be a real phase of global cooling. " The thermosphere always cools during the solar minimum. It is one of the most important ways in which the solar cycle influences our planet, "Mlynczak continued. In addition, studies by Northumbria University (England) and UC-San Diego confirm NASA's observations, suggesting that a large solar minimum may occur in the coming decades due to very low sunspot activity.

Very soon now I expect the theme to change from "Its Global Warming that is causing this Global Cooling".  More people are beginning to see that Global Cooling is caused by the Sun and not CO2.  It will be almost exactly the same as 1978-79, all over again.  This program from 1978, and part of the "In Search Of...." series, is entitled "The Coming Ice Age, and was narrated by the late Leonard Nimoy.   I found most of it on this Youtube video yesterday, and its below this.

For those of you who don't remember, this was the almost unanimous opinion, right up until a hot summer in 1986, when Dr. James Hansen turned everything upside down at two congressional testimonials.  From then on, it was AGW hysteria, until now.

You just know the climate is getting colder when you see alligators snouts, frozen in place, above water.   I remember this from the 70s, before things warmed up.

Next thing you know, they will be migrating further south, out of Virginia and parts of North Carolina.   S5
