That is a lot of first cousin marriages. It isn't unheard of elsewhere,Jerry Lee Lewis married his first cousin in the late 1950s.

Is there definitive proof that this does cause genetic problems? Does the Muslim world suffer way more retardation, physical deformities?

The main problem is the fact that Muslims have been doing it consistently for 1500 years, that's approximately 75 generations opposed to 1 or 2 amongst westerners.
The true purpose of democracy is not to select the best leaders — a clearly debatable obligation — but to facilitate the prompt and peaceful removal of obviously bad ones.

Bicycle,

I don't know about your math calculation here. How common were cousin marriages in the west before say 1900??

Maybe not as rare as we would like to think honestly. I have no idea.

Unless the Muslim regions show a clear ratio of increased retarded and physical deformity live births,I'll have to write her theory off.

I have an extensive family tree dating back to the 1470's on my mother's side and it only has one cousin to cousin marriage. On my father's side there were instances of McDonald/McDonald marriages, but they were unrelated or most likely separated by several generations.

In Eastern Turkey marriage between cousins among Kurds living there is a common occurence.
According to scientists if cousins do not have defective genes, these marriages might not cause problems in their offsprings. However, if there are some common defective genes in the cousins, offsprings could have devastating defects.
Here is an image of Ulas sisters and brother, offsprings from a marriage between cousins, they can walk only on all fours.

Let's be gracious and put this in "Science", for what it's worth.

As for the validity of 'inbreeding' there has to be something to it. But there is always an escape valve, such as what Kamil has done. He got the hell out of the problem area, leaving an ever increasing pool of low intellect.

I wonder if Kamil is married to someone outside his ethnicity? Are you Kamil?

That's a sad sight right there for those folks. That ought to cause an entire culture to re-examine their habits.

I just wonder,is atrophy part of human DNA? In other words,is it more or less likely that we will have this type of offspring regardless of incest over time?

I tend to think atrophy is part of DNA since our bodies obviously deteriorate over time. Why wouldn't human DNA?

There are thousands and thousands of throwbacks, which can result through endogamy. But there are also just as many good side effects. Ashkenazis are a great example. They have the highest IQ in the world, of any group of humans. But common sense? That's a different story.

One other side effect of all this endogamy is the trait of 'red headedness'. If you see someone who is red headed, the odds are he/she has Ashkenazi genes. That red headed buxomy babe, Liz Claiman, is the perfect example.

[Image: 82880_liz_claman_679_122_371lo_122_371lo.JPG]

After my divorce, I dated a red headed Jewess. Cynthia was built just like Liz. What a pair! I've come to believe that red headedness also indicates big boobs too. Wink1

Scoliosis is also unusually high among Jews. Liz above has it, and I too have it. The point is that among any endogamous group, genetic traits tend to develop unique characteristics. And that alone is a good case for Exogamy.

it is Science, but also History and Religion......

OK... an attempt to understand the data:

I'm not sure that linking Inbreeding to Islam is correct; the actual link may be a bit different: Islam <-> Tribalism <-> Inbreeding.

Look at the table carefully: the lowest numbers correspond to the least tribal societies among Arab countries. Lebanon and Northern Egypt have large urban population which contribute to more mixing, and Arabs in Palestine are largely immigrants from different Arab countries who are no longer tribal. The only other low numbers are in Magrib: Algeria/Tunisia/Morocco... may be interesting to check how tribal vs urbanized are these countries. (Libya, incidentally, is highly tribal as we know now and we see nearly 50% inbreeding rate there).

Further: I'd love to see the data for Turkey and Iran too... I suspect that inbreeding will be much lower, because the cores of both countries are not tribal. Kurds, on the other hand are tribal, and another interesting datum would be to compare Muslim Kurd tribes with non-Muslim.

Likewise, Sephardic Jews are pretty much Arabs culturally and ethnically, what is the inbreeding rate there? Wink1

With extremely lower populations and extreme rural life, incest would be a reasonable option.

Whether we believe the Bible, anthropology or another religion, man had to be sparse at some point where incest either happened logically or the species died off.

nonsense. red hair is of european and slavic origin, while the jews are arabs. might have been introduced to the chosen ones when some slavic tribes converted to judaism. alongside the iq.
had a couple of ginger girlfriends myself, but they were odd. i like sun and beach, they didn't. very sensitive skin, lots of health issues.

Actually, I never realized I had it until after I had been in and out of the military.

The interesting thing is that I always knew I liked to slouch in one direction, when relaxing. And when standing in formation, I was never really comfortable, because my spine was never straight. I just didn't realize it at the time.

I almost began another thread devoted to Muslims and inbreeding, until I discovered Michael's thread here. Here's some videos devoted to what happens when a culture encourages Muslims to marry their first cousins. It produces an awful lot of mutants and stillbirths, ugh! S18

I'm certainly glad my daughter never married a Muslim, for that thing alone. Thank you Sheri. S22
