Nah, I am not as cool or ambitious. S4 At least it was more fun having a space race and stuff than watching people waste their lives on this trash.

The fact that zombies are funny and morbid and just a touch horrifying adds spice to the tedium of survival.

Plus who hasn't thought out Zombie traps? Like mouse traps but with humans instead of cheese. Maybe you lure them off a cliff or into a room with a rebar-mesh ceiling that you can spearfish them from above.

Lotsa cool things one can do to zombies.

And let's not forget the ever popular... Zomboni.

not to mention there's that Adventure angle of it. all of a sudden there's a break from the mediocre everyday life you're basically forced to muddle though.... and you get this chance to prove your mettle in an adventurous setting.

play it right, and you might end up being almost like a video game hero or an action hero like in those movies. kill monsters, save lives and get the girl/boy.....

who doesn't want that? S6

And it's basically the same fantasy in any setting... if it's not zombies, then it's some other threat that turns you into an hero with a license to loot whatever you want and kill monsters.

I have to admit, if I could actually make an living "Adventuring" in a similar fashion like they do in those video games, I totally would give up my life of being an graphic designer for that.

Alas, there are no real-life dungeons to crawl where you kill monsters that drop money. :p

I probably would be so rich from that too... considering that I often get up to million grands in gold, silver and whatever else they have for currencies.

Zombies are really endangered species these days. Wherever they appear they become subject to manslaughter and oppression from so-called human-beings. Have anyone of you seen zombie alive? No chance.
Maybe, a zombie was elected to MP seat, voted to charity councel, run for a President?
Republican Christians are responsible for zombies being constantly killed in most brutal ways.

Ok, ok. I think I will watch the season. The more I look at this, the more I am intrigued. Normally I'm not into Zombies, but this series has a lot more than just that. I just finished reading an article by David Harsanyi, on how 'Buying American' really wasn't good for America.

It's about economics,......classical economics, and dear to my heart. But I just had to do a search on him, and came across this on his home page:“All the drama’s on TV”.

Perhaps I am repeating what some others may have observed, but this series initially reminds me of something else: not dead people, but live plants. I'm talking about "Day of the Triffids". Did anyone else note the opening plot similarity?

Quote:If you're feeling tense and beleaguered, the recently concluded first season of AMC's "The Walking Dead" probably wasn't for you.

The show's violence and ceaseless tension did not make for a relaxing viewing experience, to say the least. But you should know this: Not only is "The Walking Dead" an artistic high point for the zombie genre (OK, that's not a very high bar), it also may be the smartest show on television. It's a gripping and gritty study of how people react to hopelessness and fear — and, need it be mentioned, hordes of awfully hungry, man-eating undead in various stages of decomposition.

Yeah, I know. A zombie show? Give it a break. But I'm not alone. "Walking Dead" is a ratings success and a second season is forthcoming. It's not surprising. Television — with its zombies, ad men ("Mad Men"), dysfunctional mafia families ("The Sopranos"), science fiction meets geo-politics ("Battlestar Galactica"), and decaying urban centers ("The Wire") — consistently has become the place to explore the American cultural and political experience.

This is the golden age of television.

Granted, we don't always want to be challenged. There will always be a place for dancing contests and sitcoms. But these days, television is continually proving that successful entertainment can be clever, idea-driven, intellectual and politically sophisticated.

So watch more of it. Even if it means living with zombies for an hour.

So nice of you to deign to watch this peasantry, master John. No doubt we will all be flogged if you do not enjoy watching this show.

I don't need to watch the show in order to like the idea of flogging you Kris. Especially following your considerate post here.

Keep it up, and I will place you in my Anthony Weiner fan club category. S13

In the comic series, the group finds a prison and decides to make it their home. They do well until they run afoul of a psychopath who controls a nearby town who decides to lay siege to the prison. Zombies attack as the group flees and several prominent characters die in the process. If Season 2 covers this part of the tale, it should make for a really exciting season.

I checked out the 'trailers' and it looks like they do indeed have to do some walking. Their convoy runs into a sea of stranded cars on the interstate and they have to abandon the convoy.

As soon as the show comes out, I'll download the program and watch it from my monitor. I have a large monitor upstairs and it is bigger than watching a 50-60" television in the living room. Plus I have a nice stereo system on each of my computer systems, where I play my music these days.

I now have the second season, so I'll start watching it. Should be interesting.

Oh, and I just discovered an author who is apparently creating waves in the Zombie world. He is Walter Greatshell, and I just ran across him in the SciFi section of Demonoid today. How this stuff qualifies to be placed in the SciFi section is totally beyond me. But if you are really into this stuff, check him out.

Also, one Joe McKinney, who has quite a few zombie books out.

I'm beginning to think that there is a whole Zombie sub-culture out there. Obviously there's a lot of warped individuals running(or walking?) around lose. Spiteful

Yes, there is definitely a zombie subculture. It's gaining in popularity, it's an anti-vampire werewolf movement, to be honest. The vampires and werewolves get all the romance and I think the people who know better flock to the idea that if monsters really existed, it would be like a zombie world.

I like zombies because it isn't about the zombies, it's about how people will interact when the safety net of the government fails and we have to rely on our instincts in order to survive. To me, the scariest part of these stories is the things that people do to one another. The zombies are the easy part, they are outsmarted by children; but how do you outsmart a murderous society that doesn't give a shit about ethics or compassion?

You may well have a point there Kris. I'll start looking at it with that in mind. Perhaps I can come to enjoy it more, especially if it had government incompetence involved. S5
