I don't think he was ever captured.
The fact that the envoys of the Taliban leadership have to cross the border from Pakistan to Afghanistan on mule's back proves that Rumsfeld was right: "They are either death, either in Pakistan, either somewhere else", and that the "Pakistan" part is the most accurate.
If Mullah Omar and the other two or three strong guys were dead, the movement would have splited in Afghan and Paki branches. They have not.
