except the actual Palestinian people who deserve much more than the scraps given to them by their "leaders". I don't see any way out of this mess for them.

your likelihood of a war for survival increases greatly if Iran declares itself to posess nuclear weapons.

Let me remind you that "Palestinian people" freely elected Hamas and gladly participate in its activities. They live off and multiply on international aid. When Israeli first occupied the strip they build housing for so-called "refuges". Nobody moved there. Why? The ones foolish enough to try were killed off because the powers to be in the Arab world wants them to be their club to beat Israelis with.
if one looks at the entire 20-th century history of the place, one see a repeated cycle - "fedayiin -> regular armies -> fedayiin -> r. armies -> PLO -> r. armies -> intifada -> hisb. -> hamas -> to be continued. S1
Casual observation from the above sequence is that regular armies gets beaten down regularly and are very difficult and expensive to reconstitute and deploy, "fedayiin", etc. are cheap and easy to regenerate. In short, the Arabs way of war since the Mohamed robed his first caravan.
2. Iran can declare anything they want at any time. Few weapons will change nothing. And mullahs are not suicidal, whatever they want you to believe. Nuclear explosion anywhere changes the status quo and not mullahs nor kings, nor terr. honchos want to change it. They like it like it is and prefer to continue: they live off their invented "struggle" and as long as the "struggle" continues they will continue to get payed, so why change? Remember cmrd. Arafat refusal to take over the territory and build something? Remember the burst sewer dump in Gaza? Remember constant refusal to take any responsibility for the pop. well-being?
I suspect (surprising, isn't it?) that USA and EU, and Israelis as well also prefer the status quo: it is more comfortable to busy oneself with peace and other processes, conferences, condemnations, UN resolutions, etc. Have you thought what the UNWRA will do if (Allah forbid) suddenly the "Palestinian refuges" disappear?
