The concerns for those of us who always knew that Kevin Rudd is a collectivist mole have been proven true. Australia cancelled a $ 1.2 billion deal to buy American Seasprite helicopters yesterday, leaving his country indefensible on purpose. Just have a look at the geopolitical situation to realise that Australia is surrounded by the foes of freedom, the Islamist regime of Indonesia to the North, the Middle East to the Northwest, Darfour to the West, and the communist despotates of Venezuela, Ecuador, Cuba and Chile to the East. Iran's nucular rockets can reach Perth, and North Korea's Melbourne and Sydney.

The new government has also been critical of its predecessor's decision a year ago to sign a A$6 billion ($4.6 billion) contract to buy 24 F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters from Boeing Co.

Fitzgibbon has said he will also cancel that contract if a review next month reports that the jet is not the best for Australia's needs.

What Australia needs is national health care, oh wait, don't they already have that?

I guess you tried to sell them a bit too expensively and some folks of the Howard administration made some pocket money. Wink1 Wikipedia says the unit costs for that plane were US$ 55.2 million. Well, armament and initial training might be extra, but by so much?
Thailand also cancelled a contract for a couple of F16 and they purchase Swedish SAAB Gripen instead. Were upset about the temporary embargo of American weaponry after the coup of 2006.

Yes. And Sweden was glad to sell the planes despite the coup that got US to put up an embargo....

Track,

Correct. The Europeans have far less concern for anything but themselves than we do,even if we don't have all that much,we likely have more than any other group of humans on earth.

Sweden, the socialist paradise I think isn't it? We do pretty well considering all things and this Grippen will get taken down by an American aircraft if it ever faces one, too.

The Russki always held that the reason the Israelis always bested the Arab air forces was the pilots, only they don't want to discuss the Pakistani AF downing Indian AF like 70-10 back in 1999 nor do they like to recount the Russian pilots dead over the Red Sea in the run up to the 1973 war effort either. The Russki did not shoot down 1 Israeli aircraft.

The Egyptian AF general,Hosnia Mubarak, got tired of the Russki suggesting Egytpian pilots were the problem,he invited the Russki to have a go at it and they came home dead or w/o their MiGs.

Depends on what American plane they would face, it's a match for the F16. I guess our WW2 Messerschmidts would be, American technology has an air of inferiority. I mean, American made cars give me a good idea of where the weaponry stands. As for the passengers, probably. Need a von Richthofen? Ask us. Wink1

I suggest you start to snuggle up to the Muslims at the South, who like Kosovo might get a county-seized nation of their own in the future. Since you start to furnish Kosovo with arms, you could sell them to the Sultanate of South Thailand as well.
