Quote:BRAMPTON, Ontario - A Canadian cab driver charged with strangling his 16-year-old daughter after friends said she refused to wear a Muslim head scarf and follow conservative religious values was denied bail on Wednesday.

Honour killings are all too common amongst muslims. But what they really are are Hate Crimes. They're not simply crimes against the individual murdered, but a crime designed to terrorize muslim women to Obey or Die. Don't westernize. Don't acculturate to your adopted country. Or the men in your family who are SUPPOSED TO PROTECT YOU will murder you.

I know hate crime legislation isn't too popular 'round here, but it exists. And if it's going to be enforced, then enforce it EVERYWHERE it applies. Especially where grown men murder their own daughters for the sake of their farking honour.
It's horrible! Your religion of peace at work here.

However "P", this dispicable act should not be treated as a hate crime, as all murders fall in that category one way or another. I hope the father is sent away for the rest of his life and anyone else in the family guilty of taking part also inprisioned.
"P", you must tell the whole truth. A group called Allah Islamia Sharia with links to Al Queda claimed responsibility and vowed to destroy Israel.
Hate with a twist.
John: The rationale behind Hate Crimes legislation is that it's an act of terror. It's a crime that terrorizes a group in addition to causing whatever harm to it's obvious victim.

Not ALL crimes fall into that category. Not even all murders fall into that category.

I think it's the term "Hate Crime" that causes the confusion. Perhaps they should be called something else. I suppose "Crimes of intimidation and terror aimed at members of another sex, race, creed, national origin or sexual orientation" is too long.

Personally, I'm not sure where I stand on hate crime legislation. I see valid points on both sides. On the one hand, burning crosses on someone's lawn is a lot worse than lesser forms of incendiary vandalism. It IS terrorism. But on the other hand there are too many grey areas and lack of equal application of the laws.

My original point was, if we are GOING to have hate crime legislation, we need to apply it to Honour Killings as well. Because it's not just about killing the poor girl who's only crime was to want to be a normal person. It's about making sure that all muslim women keep their place. Under the thumb of the men in their lives.
I fear the hate crime thing. I have a sense it is intended to harm we who might have hostility that is appropriate as opposed to inappropriate.

If this man is guilty,he should be axed, why he did it is meaningless,IMO.

So what good is it to ax his head and state it is a hate crime, what less fear will the next Muslim girl in Canada have of her father and brother? None.
Well, which 'group' of people would the victim belong to? Seems to me to be primarily an individual crime within a family.

Your hate and prejudice against Muslims is not "appropriate", Palladin. The fact you "fear the hate crime thing" shows that it is well-placed and working as it should. 8)

Women.
Stroll,

Except for the fact I don't hate Muslims, your comment might make sense. I hate their ignorant religion, like I hated your forefather's religion. I am hopeful all Muslims end up in heaven forever, that is hardly hatred.
