this is interesting. Since nobody has yet to claim responsibility, we can assume it was done by some Christian hate group? Certainly not from the Religion Of Peace, right? Or perhaps followers of Liberty?

Quote:Explosion at Philippines mall kills 8

By OLIVER TEVES, Associated Press Writer
Fri Oct 19, 10:18 AM ET

A powerful explosion ripped through three floors of a shopping mall in the heart of Manila's financial district Friday, killing eight people, injuring scores and sending police and troops on the highest state of alert.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said "circumstances indicate it is highly probable that it was caused by an explosive device." The same mall was targeted by a bombing in 2000.

She said police and the military went on the highest alert and deployed an additional 2,000 personnel to secure public areas "to prevent a similar occurrence."

The afternoon explosion at the glitzy Glorietta 2 mall toppled roofs, destroyed walls, and sent debris crashing onto cars outside.

At least eight people were killed and about 130 were wounded, officials said.

Our resident Mozzie basher is the first to reveal the culprits...yaaawwwnnn.

Quote:Initial police reports said the blast could have been triggered by a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) tank in one of the restaurants inside the Glorietta shopping centre but investigators began to consider a bombing after surveying the damage.

I would probably take the same approach had Christians committed 9799 terrorist acts since September 11th, 2001.

Soooo, will it be enough to put you to sleep, if they include YOU in their sights? Will you come awake as you travel south to renew your visa, in the Islamic south, should one of these peace loving muslims decide to attack your mode of transport?

Will it?
Oh, and speaking of Thailand, home of children and little girls, for sexual hire, there is this also Stroll. Something not to Yawn about, I would think.

Stop apologizing to Muslims.
Tell them to take responsibility and stop the violence.
An impressive long list John, have they ever targeted any Westerners?

Anyway, the point you try to divert from with this, is that your new little protegee has jumped to a conclusion as to who is responsible for the explosion, and you are happy to go along with this. Wink1

Well let's see here, compared to you, he is indeed new. I have no idea if he is little or large. And he is not my protegee so to speak. he is just a member, who is taking his own council, not mine.

Now, if I happen to agree with him, are you saying that I should challenge him anyway? What are you REALLY trying to say here Stroll?

Oh, and as for targeting Westerners, I have no idea here. Perhaps you can give us a 'head's up' since you live there?
Ah, ok, I was wondering whether you knew each other from some other place. I assume he's "little" as in immature, judging by the avatar and the posts I've read so far.

No, to the best of my knowledge, no Westerners were ever targeted by Southern insurgents.

To come back to the topic at hand, my pointing out that nobody has been identified as being responsible (it's not even clear whether it was a bomb or not), yet warbicycle has already ticked off another "Islamic Terrorist" attack, stands unacknowledged.
If we could have justice on earth,Stroll could live with Islamists and the rest of us would not be burdened by them.

Alas,this is often not possible.

I have an answer for John. The perps are likely a group of Jews and Christians . Certainly followers of Mohammad the Arab warlord wouldn't see this as intrinsically good......would they?
What makes you think I would want to live with Islamists? Shock

I have a good idea, why don't we wait for further details before speculating, or are you guys so keen on blaming those evil Muuuslims that you cannot wait for the facts to emerge?
Stroll,

You spend a lot of time defending them, that's why. You seem convinced this scourge of terrorism has nothing to do with the religion of Islam and the raising of these terrorist in the Islamic cultures they are raised in.

That's like saying the historical hostility towards Jews in Europe has no role in the holocaust. Wrong on both counts, terrorists grow out of the culture their mothers raise them in as Hitler grew out of the culture he was incubated in.
Although the publicity focus on GWOT ops in the Philippines tends to be on the ASG, MNLF and the RSM, the old-fashioned Marxist NPA is still very active - often more so than the Islamists. Although if I was to hazard a guess at responsibility for the mall explosion - if it truly is a terrorist attack - I'd look at the RSM. Its more their style.

Here's a good look at'em from HRW back in Jul: Lives Destroyed: Attacks on Civilians in the Philippines
Quote:....In all, bombings against civilians in the Philippines have caused over 1,700 casualties in the last seven years, more than the number of people killed and injured in bombing attacks during the same period in neighboring Indonesia (including the 2002 Bali bombings), and considerably more than the number of those killed and injured in bombings in Morocco, Spain, Turkey, or Britain. Moreover, in addition to bombings, extremist groups in the Philippines have carried out numerous kidnappings and targeted killings, including beheadings, and have extorted large amounts of money from Philippine civilians in ransom and extortion payments.

Members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and Rajah Solaiman Movement (RSM), based in the southern Philippines, have claimed responsibility for many of these crimes. ASG is a radical Islamist group whose members broke away in the 1990s from more established ethnic Moro insurgent groups (“Moro” is a Philippine term for Muslim). RSM, a group composed of converts to Islam, is closely tied to ASG. The two groups purportedly aim to push Christians out from Mindanao and the Sulu islands and “restore” Islamic rule over the Philippines.

Both ASG and RSM maintain links with current or former members of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), the violent Indonesian Islamist group responsible for the 2002 Bali bombings. Philippine government officials also claim that elements of the longstanding Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have, over the last few years, provided sanctuary or assistance for ASG, RSM, and JI members.....

FYI, Bill Roggio's Long War Journal is two-thirds of the way through a look at the Philippines in this general context:

Palladin, when visiting muslim countries I always changed my opinion about local population, because were all are basically squint-eyed. Your opinion or mine aren't unbiassed, cause were formed by media. It's not our opinions at all before we spent some time in country...
It's common problem, not about muslim regions only. I dislike muslims in Europe, but have no problems with them in their native countries.
Jedburgh Wrote:Although the publicity focus on GWOT ops in the Philippines tends to be on the ASG, MNLF and the RSM, the old-fashioned Marxist NPA is still very active - often more so than the Islamists.
...
Thank you Jedburgh, at last a voice of reason, and welcome back.

My objection here is to the jumping to conclusions and routinely laying it on "Islamists", when it hasn't even been established that this was a bomb - it could have been a LPG tank exploding by accident.

There was a bomb attack planned on Makati malls before, but then, this one would be a singular bomb, and nobody has claimed responsibility - untypical for the Philippines.
Further, as mentioned, there has been a resurgence of formerly almost defunct communist rebels in the Phils, they cannot be excluded from suspicion, either.
Also, a political anti-government act is not impossible, but the timing speaks against this.
Palladin Wrote:You spend a lot of time defending them, that's why. You seem convinced this scourge of terrorism has nothing to do with the religion of Islam and the raising of these terrorist in the Islamic cultures they are raised in.
I defend Jews, Blacks, Gays or any other group unjustly attacked as well.
This doesn't mean I'd want to live in Israel, a black neighbourhood or in a Gay household. S1
Stroll,

You defend Muslims as nnot responsible for their acts though, you act as if our hostility to Muslims is prejudice and not based on terroism we see daily.

The culture creates these monsters.

Here's an article on this blast, alledgedly Christian converts to Islam are behind this act. Now,why would Christian men who have converted to Islam suddenly start acting like MUSLIMS act?

Couldn't be the religion or the culture,it's just a coincidence.

HERE
Well, it turns out that the Glorietta Mall blast wasn't a terrorist attack after all.

The police investigation has shown that a dieel tank in the basement of the mall exploded. There was an extreme diesel fume buildup due to the ventilation system being inoperable. An electrical crew had been in the basement shortly before the incident trying to make repairs.

Initial tests that showed traces of RDX were shown to be false positives, while basic indicators (direction of the blast, buckling of the floor, the tank having obviously exploded from the inside out) all clearly outlined the accident.

Oops.
The Christian converts to Islam claimed it whether they did it or not and that should say something about the influence of Islam on these humans.

But,I'll be like everyone else and pretend that I can't figure that one out.

BH,

I don't have problems with Muslims in their homes either, that's where I advocate they should be living. If they leave me alone I have no problem with any non Christian religion or atheism.

I prefer everyone believe in Jesus of Nazareth as The Christ for their own good, but I have no problem with anyone that is into live and let live attitudes, the problem is Muslims don't think like that wherever they live.
Neither do communists or Nazis,to me the religion leads the serious student of it into activism we call jihad, communism and Nazism also had their activism of violence and coercion.
Palladin Wrote:... I prefer everyone believe in Jesus of Nazareth as The Christ for their own good, but I have no problem with anyone that is into live and let live attitudes, the problem is Muslims don't think like that wherever they live.....
Over the years, I've lived and worked in several Muslim-majority countries (Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey etc.) - the only one that I would say fits your perception of the average Muslim refusing to "live and let live" is Saudi Arabia. In all the others I got along well with the average Ahmed, and religion was never an issue.

Hell, in the US southern Bible Belt many locals are far less tolerant of non-Christians than were Muslims in most of those countries.
