We caught him because we went fishing. Basically why wait for terrorists to purchase the stuff, when you can go out pose as a buyer and nab the guy. The guy said he could get more. The Russians aren't helping us with that piece of the puzzle.

Quote:The man was arrested and sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison on smuggling charges. Three Georgians tried as accomplices were sentenced on lesser charges.

Again I have to get to these artificial numbers for sentencing. Is the man going to stop selling dangerous materials after 10 years? The guy is an old soviet scientist and may not have any other job ready. I hope we're finding ways to recruit scientist into something in order to avoid them from seling dangerous materials.
"Weapon's grade" means that the uranium contained at least 90% U235. However, the total amount taken was not given. My guess? Very little. Obviously, he was attempting to show that he Did have a sample that was 90% U235, which is fissile. The required amount of weapon's grade would have to be considerably more, but the fact that he had access to it makes the situation grave.

Russia will not cooperate, not because they wish to be troublesome, but because they wish to escape the embarassment of having let it get by them. And since the processed U235 has tell tale markings, the experts can not only tell exactly where the process took place, but WHEN it took place. This could cause a considerable loss of Face with the Russians.

With who? They generally get a bye from the "International Community" on everything to environmental damage to weapons sales to helping give the Mullahs the bomb. Why do you think a little thing like a nuke accounting boo boo is going to raise much ire?

That is because you(third peron) Never admit your faults publically. Same here.

I expect their facial blemishes to be pretty much irrelevant to both their public perception and their policies. At least until some group pops their pilfered material in New York or Paris. I'd give it 10 years at the outside ... and frankly, I think it's more likely that it will occur in Europe before it happens here.
