Well so far Pope's scheduled visit to Turkey is going on schedule.
Personally, I don't mind his visit, but I'm concerned for his safety, I don't think he would be any less safer than being in any other European country. However, God forbid, if something happened to him in Turkey, it would be a disaster for Inter Religious Relations.

ANKARA - Pope Benedict should use a planned trip to Turkey in November to rebuild ties with the Muslim world, badly strained by his comments that portrayed Islam as a religion tainted by violence, analysts say.

Some say Benedict should even rethink his opposition to Turkish membership of the European Union as a way of helping to narrow the gap between the Western and Islamic worlds and thus reducing the risk of a "clash of civilizations."

Benedict is due to make his first trip as Pope to a Muslim land on November 28-30. Ankara has said it wants the trip to go ahead despite Muslim anger that has only partially been quelled by the Pope's expressions of regret over the hurt he has caused.

"It is better that he come. It can help repair relations. The fact that he will be in Turkey can help Muslims see he is a man of goodwill," said Mehmet Dulger, head of the Turkish parliament's foreign affairs committee.

Dogu Ergil of Ankara University echoed this view.

"His trip will provide a window of opportunity to rephrase what he said, to show that he does not accept the negative stereotypes of Islam often found in the Western world," he said.

Even before his latest remarks on Islam, Turks were distrustful of Benedict, who before becoming Pope said Turkey as a non-Christian country would not fit into the EU.
He'd be nuts to go forward with the visit.
He claims there is no reason to stop it. I think it is a bad idea for him and Turkey as well.
I am still convinced that if and when the terrorists get their hands on a fission bomb, Rome will most likely be the target of choice, because it will be easier to drive it there and blow up the official seat of Christianity, than getting one over into the US. It will be Islam's way of getting even with Christianity for all the years of fighting them, and they will wish to make a Grand Statement.

I would suggest that if you wish to see the Rome in all it's glory, then you had better make your trip as soon as possible. That way you can tell your grandchildren about how you once visited the Pantheon, or the Ampitheratre. Fortunately, I've already been there and done that.

Of course, it will be the beginning of the end for Islam as we know it.
John,

There is no certainty of anything in this war. It may be the enemy will not be allowed to advance beyond the destruction they already have and it may be that much will be destroyed by them.

Impirically,I agree with your assertion. Rome is a perfect selection.
Pope, never say you are sorry. These fanatics will kill you anyway.

That's what they do.
Bean
Ken,

I don't know how much evidence it's going to take, when you treat these hyenas with kindness, they take that as weak and react like a wolf. The weaker we appear, the more likely the nuts are to attack, not less.
Whose suggesting we treat them with kindness?
I can't understand what happened. The question was asked six centuries ago:
Quote:Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached?
Will muslims answer the question or no?

They answer it every day: with violence.

Great answer. =D>
Anon,

This apologizing,that's kindness,soft hearted,etc.

The Pope may have been wiser never to mention Islam or Mohammad, but now that he has,can he with integrity claim it was wrong or that what he stated was a lie?

If he feels his comments cost innocent lives,he would do well to speak honestly about Islam to the world, then resign his position. It is intolerable free men hold their tongue because evil jerks threaten and do murder.

On a side note,Stratfor thinks he made these comments in a very calculated fashion with no naivete,so we'll see.
Last year Spengler wrote: "Now that everyone is talking about Europe's demographic death, it is time to point out that there exists a way out: convert European Muslims to Christianity. The reported front-runner at the Vatican conclave ... Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, is one of the few Church leaders unafraid to raise the subject."

Imagine the WWII poster of Uncle Sam pointing his finger at you and saying, "We Want You!" - but substitute Pope Benedict for Uncle Sam, and his call is to Muslims around the world.
I'll pray for it,The Lord would love it,Benedict would love it.

Stratfor sure thinks Benedict did this shrewdly to place the Catholic Church in a stronger position and to assist POTUS Bush and the anti extremist Islamic fight intellectually(for the Pope knew the response). This simply has opened everyone's eyes to reality, extremist Muslims are not to be tolerated.

They see Benedict as assisting Bush like John Paul did against the Soviets.

Here is Bush's challenge to NON EXTREMIST MUSLIMS
