Europe's utopian hangover

For those unhappy with socialists....

Quote:One thing history teaches, over and over again, is that there are no shortcuts. Human societies advance the hard way; there is no alternative. Communism promised Utopia on Earth. After three-quarters of a century of unparalleled sufferings, the Soviet Union collapsed in privation and misery, leaving massive Russia with an economy no bigger than tiny Holland's. We are now watching the spectacle of another experiment in hedonism, the European Union, as it learns the grim facts of life.

The EU is built on a fantasy — that men and women can do less and less work, have longer and longer holidays and retire at an earlier age, while having their income, in real terms, and their standard of living increase. And this miracle is to be brought about by the enlightened bureaucratic regulation of every aspect of life.

......

I vaguely recall some talk a couple of years ago about the EU overcoming US, Euro replacing Dollar,....et cetera

What are we discussing? Economic model? Politic model? Though it's difficult to separate...
Sure EU can't overcome US now economically. But it doesn't mean Euro can't replace dollar. Battle continuous... Dollar is so weak, that even Euro can replace it in Russia because of political reasons. Russia is cooperated with some EU countries, so Euro is preferable.
But the main problem of EU is in policy, it's kolhoz without chairman and Poland is a part of this kolhoz.

I have found russian translation of article from polish media. Sorry, it exists in polish and in russian only:
Quote:Еще одна проблема братьев Качиньских, пытающихся изобразить из себя второго Пилсудского, ... как растянуть конституционный кризис в Европейском Союзе с тем, чтобы их партия могла долго, успешно и суверенно препятствовать созданию сплоченного ЕС, а тот за это щедро финансировал Польшу.

EU is built on idea that one market is better than many and that to some extend (no consensus) this should be supported by political integration.

Quote:The EU is a French concept and is still largely run according to French ideas. And France is the archetypal EU country.
EU does not have an archetypal country.

Quote:Americans ... having an economy that is run by businessmen not bureaucrats...
Can't decide which option is worse. Beside, I have experienced US bureaucracy. Same as everywhere.

That is why we on the right want to downsize the State, and it's bureaurocracy.
