Get this. The Beeb is waxing poetic about the number of people on this planet who are going hungry, and spends a great deal of time and effort on the effects, yet does not take the time to highlight the actual causes, or how to do away with them.

In Millions Starving by 2015, it talks about the increased number who will be starving. In Africa's Hunger-A Systemetic Crisis, it simply discusses symptoms. In Ethopia's Food Aid Addiction, if gives many examples of problems that another African country must endure, as many simply starve to death.

But Why? Why are these millions of poor people starving to death? Why? Why can't they increase their standard of living? Why? There are many articles that this "so called" sterling news service presents to show that indeed millions are starving. But they fail to take the problem and make any objective, and honest, verdicts as to WHY this is happening.

Are they going to state that it is the Lack of Free Enterprise that keeps the citizen from getting ahead, or producing enough to supply for his/her family and other families as well? Or does the Beeb make the courageous decision to highlight the other reason for the premature death of millions? Do they mention that it is CORRUPTION that is killing people, while a few
steal intended funds that are intended for the many people who are most in need of this help?

If you say no, YOU WIN! Perhaps Pepe can contact the Beeb and set them straight, so they can live up to the potential that Pepe actually "feels" them to have already.

Anyway, here is a wonderful article by Ralph Peters, and he has no trouble pointing a finger in the right direction. And all we need to do is crack down on those who corrupt the very system that they are charged to protect and help.

THE WORST PLAGUE

By RALPH PETERS

CORRUPTION KILLS
WHAT does a standoff between a Texas sheriff's department and Mexican soldiers over a drug bust have in common with the electoral victory of Hamas and the current government crisis in Kenya?

Here's a hint: They all tie in with the fate of Iraq's new government, the Enron trials and environmental degradation in China.

The winning — and losing — answer is: corruption.

No single factor has been as destructive of good government and the hopes of billions of struggling human beings.

AIDS? Malaria? Avian flu? Corruption undercuts efforts to provide decent health care — just as it wrecks education systems and corrodes social bonds. Corruption is the great plague that makes all others worse.

Corruption kills. Sometimes directly, as when Mexican narco-insurgents shielded by regional politicians assassinate journalists fighting to clean up their country. Or when a crusading African politician dies in an "accident."

Usually, though, corruption kills indirectly. By robbing honest chances for better lives. By siphoning off funds meant for sewage systems or piped water. By delivering medicines long past their expiration dates — or no medicines at all.

From Latin America to China, university spaces and grades are for sale, while government jobs and contracts require kickbacks. Meritocracy — that great human hope — doesn't have a chance. Markets are distorted, and capitalism, which relies on the rule of law, gets a bad name where it never had a chance. The poor suffer. And they vote their desperation, putting fanatic religious parties in power in Palestine or electing a demagogue to the presidency in Venezuela.

Corruption makes a mockery of every religion, every system of government, every public institution. From Argentina through Nigeria to Pakistan, countries that should've punched their way to the economic middleweight bouts failed miserably instead — while privileged citizens bought luxury homes in Europe.

Corruption makes wars worse, too. Illicit arms deals, the lure of profits from "blood diamonds" or narcotics, or simple land grabs increase human misery geometrically. The Vietnam-era slogan "War is Good Business" applies far more viciously to the crippled "developing" world than it ever did to our own country.

Yes, we have corruption in the United States. You bet. After sex and violence, corruption's easily the third-oldest human pastime. But we don't look away. When we encounter corruption, we get angry. And we prosecute. Whether the case involves executives so rich they think they're untouchable, arrogant D.C. lobbyists — or members of Congress. It may take time, but here the corrupt go to jail.

Elsewhere, they go to Paris. Or Geneva. Or parliament.

Elsewhere, billions of human beings are born without hope if they don't belong to the right family, the right clan or tribe or the right religion.

Elsewhere, the rich and powerful not only steal from the poor and helpless, they rub their superiority in the faces of those they've dispossessed.

If you want to see cruelty more pernicious than physical torture, study corrupt societies. Much of the immigration, legal and illegal, to the USA isn't just a flight toward hope but a flight away from corruption and its consequences.

Corruption undercuts our strategic ambitions, too. In the course of a how-to-fix-Iraq discussion on Capitol Hill last fall, I remarked that, as long as we don't quit, the greatest threat to Iraq's future isn't terrorism, but the deeply embedded tradition of corruption. I don't think the senator hosting the meeting believed me, but I was deadly serious.

Without a sense of social responsibility that transcends blood and sect, it's hard to build a rule-of-law democracy. Corrupt politicians don't just steal money — they steal their country's future.

While we don't tolerate corruption here at home, we're still too willing to overlook it abroad. Yes, we have sound anti-corruption laws for our multinational corporations. But the scrutiny still isn't what it should be. And laws are worthless unless enforced.

As you'd expect, the hypocritical Europeans are much worse — despite holier-than-thou European Union anti-bribery rules (honored about as often as the old Soviet constitution). As for the Chinese and other up-and-coming economic players, they don't even pretend to obey international anti-corruption codes.

And we don't call them on it. Back in the overrated 1960s, a now-forgotten novel had a great title, "Everybody Knows and Nobody Cares." When it comes to global corruption, that's a perfect slogan.

Yes, fighting corruption abroad is tough. We lose contracts. "Friendly" governments turn against us. Demagogues blame us for their own sins. Nationalists are outraged.

But doesn't the fate of billions of human beings matter more?

Washington has to take an uncompromising stand against corruption — and not just a rhetorical one. If we're remotely sincere about democracy, human rights or religious tolerance, the battle starts with the fight against corruption.

It's about self-interest, too. 9/11 had its roots not only in religious fanaticism but also in the suffocating corruption of the Middle East. Nothing will deter hardcore fanatics, but give the average man or woman a chance and they're far less likely to strap on a suicide bomb.

Meanwhile, those Enron trials aren't about what's wrong with our system. They're about what's right with it.
Well, it seems you still have enough faith in these forums to post topics here you post at other forums Wink1
Nothing wrong with alerting everyone possible to interesting subjects. It is the response from different places that make places different.
So why do you people support Dubya??, who brought 9/11, who brought corruption and brought nothing but death and destruction to Afghanistan, iraq and soon to be iran and syria, under to childish-misleading moniker of "war on terror", now renamed by Rummy as "The Long War" (all but guarantees unending military budget increases and the eventual collapse of the american economy into a 2-1/2 world "service only" state), against an invisible "terrorist enemy".... which is most if not all muslims who stand up for their religion and dignity......
Hey, "person" lol

Muslims killing Muslims.....is standing up for their religion and dignity?

Here, take one more french-fry and enjoy your happy meal. lol

If you are refering to the recent golden mosque blow up, the entire muslim world understands that this was the work of the american-anglo-zionist axis.

They have the motive to divide iraq.
Looks like Otto has made his comeback. Welcome back you old delusional Mohammadan.

Still work in America or did Ford move you to Victoria?
Although he begs to be ignored, did anyone come up with any reason why American-anglo-zionist's would want to see Iraq splinter into a civil war? Of course the opposite is true, but such are the hateful who embrace being useful idiots. These few have an agenda and they don't proclaim it because they recognize the evilness of their actions.

Somewhere back in their past lives, some good person must have done them a good turn, which through their own arrogance and intransigence slipped out of their hands, leaving them to blame their potential benefactor for not giving enough, rather than accept responsibility for their own ineptness. Now they fester and shout their rationalizations to the world rather than accept their own failures and become better persons.

If the perpetrators were identified, then we can discuss your abstract arguments, until then, one must analyze the situation in totality, which includes an understanding of history and the stated goals of the people who currently have power in the world.

You can read my previous post on who benefits from this mosque destruction and civil war between Shiite and Sunnis that would not have occurred if it wasn't for american-anglo-zionist invasion. Evilness is the direct product of american-anglo-zionist invasion and the subsequent violent events that have occurred in the M.E since the staged 9/11 attacks.

Here is some reference to neoconservative plans to divide iraq for the benefit of you know who...

Stratfor incidently predicted the break-up of iraq back in 2002. I guess someone needed to "make it happen"
Sorry, we have already totally refuted any claim that 9/11 was staged. You are grasping at straws and perpetrating falsehoods.

The factoids you use have been retracted at their source - but you still fling them about as if they have merit. You don't, they don't.

The question is not about the Islamofacists who blew up the golden dome, it is why you are so hate-filled and determined to put false spins on simple understandable outrages done by despicable people.

There is a huge wealth of information on the internet done by serious researchers and academia that proves 9/11 was a staged attack, if anything, just look at what happened to WTC6.

As far as the other rhetoric, I find this american right-wing-zionist term "islamofacist" quite funny. The “islamofacist” is a desperately self-created mythical "enemy" that has no basis in academic circles.

But aside from that, I have present irrefutable evidence based on documents, events and official foreign policy that would drive american-anglo-zionist axis to divide iraq and what have you brought to this argument??? Basically nothing

No- there is not.

All that stuff was whacko-conspiracy rant written prior to the NIST Response to the World Trade Center Disaster finally put out at the end of 2005. We know exactly what happened, how the planes affected the structures, how Tower 7 collapsed, and there is no mystery, nor any claim by any serious researchers and academia that there is any controversy. Go do your homework if you want to keep posting here. Googling for more disinformation from whacko conspiracy web sites does not work.

Why? It is quite entertaining. The only prob. is that all those "theorists" always find the same mover behind any world event. And it is invariably "the Jews" in various dresses: Zionists, globalists, imperialists, etc. Although I think they should diversify their endings a little the roads they take to this conclusion are (sometimes) very picturesque.
Although I think they should diversify their endings a little ....

Freemasons. Neocons.

On the other hand, is theorist a new curse word? Wink1
mv Wrote:Although I think they should diversify their endings a little ....

The names are (to a large extent) perceived as euphemisms for the same culprit.

Quote:On the other hand, is theorist a new curse word? Wink1
I do not know. The word (actually any word) might be used as a curse, I guess. I used it above for the lack of a better short marker: since there are conspiracy "theories" there must be someone (or something) generating them. Hence, "theorist". There are such word combinations as "theoretical physicist", "theoretical biologist", etc., but the "theoretical conspiracict" does not sound right: there are experimental physicists and biologists in a distinction from the theoretical ones, but are there any experimental conspiracists? Shock
Seriously, conspiracists are often sucked into a vacuum created by insufficient data. Oftentimes there are valid, yet unperceived reasons for the scarcity of information. But if you give a conspiracist the slightest entry - then Shazaam!

My favorite whacko conspiracy refutation by means of far later but largely unpublicized explanation, is the JFK assassination. The hole that allowed the conspiracists to run at full power for so long was easily understood but impossible to reveal.

The thing that set them off was the FBI's refusal to investigate any KGB connection to Lee Harvey Oswald. His bio shows numerous interconnections - yet the FBI spent all their time going in other directions. Now we know that we had such a good double agent embedded within the central planning body of the Kremlin that the FBI knew with certainty that the Kremlin had nothing to do with it. Our agent, Morris Childs, knew that the CIA had moles (Aldrich Ames, amongst others) so the FBI didn't even let the CIA know he was our agent. Only a few at the top of the FBI knew, and the rest thought any covert info came from some secret code intercepts. It was only after Glasnost and Peristroika, and Childs' death that his service to the nation was admitted and honored - yet no one told the conspiracists what was up.

This is often the case. Conspiracists invent far-fetched bogeymen and secret societies, because they can't accept that they are not privvy to everything there is to know about a given subject.

The info is usually there, but the conspiracists would rather rely on other whackos, than to use common sense and elbow grease to uncover the truth.

WTC7 (I mistyped and said it was "WTC6") was, in Larry Silverstein’s words "pulled" or demolished on 9/11. Silverstein gained billions of dollars from insurance on that day. The building fell in free fall, with visable detonation charges from several videos, imploded in a controlled demolition, just like WTC1 and WTC2. This proves that there is no "arab conspiracy", rather a zionist conspiracy to start WW3 against the muslim world.

Like I said. Old post on WT7 and no controversy. It fell exactly as described. All the video supports the truth.

No demolition. Everything proved and no chance of conspiracy. You did not go to the NIST and fully read nor comprehend the findings.

Your sources recanted and admitted their mistakes, why continue the farce?

The absence of the FBI activites in certain direction as you've describe could have turned into a disaster. Because the KGB might have noticed the lack of interest as well and interpreted it correctly.

The NIST had to "toe the line" to tell a lie for the white house.

No a single steel structure to date collapsed after imploding due to "fires"

You should step back and see how ridiculous the claim you are supporting really is.
