Aurora Borealis on Saturn. The Atlantic has a neat segment of Hubble Space Telescope images:

Actually, that should be called the Aurora Australis, since the article says this is the southern polar region of Saturn. The Aurora Borealis is the northern lights. I had to read the article to be sure, because many photographs taken through telescopes are upside down, inwhich case that would have been the north pole.

Considering how very far away from the sun Saturn is, that is a remarkably powerful electrical interaction between Saturn and the sun.
I wonder if the rings add to any magnetic fields.
It just shows that electro-magnetic flux from the sun, is more than strong enough to make a noticeable effect, even that far out.

Whatever it was, this bear made the kill on that tiny floating piece of ice.
he looks so happy about it too. at first I thought he was standing on some sort of man made raft or something, until I looked closely.

My guess is that its a seal, which she(looks like a female) caught coming, or going, from an ice shelf a distance from where the picture was taken.

Once the seal was caught and killed, in order to make certain other bears didn't steal it, she took the seal out into the ocean so she could have all of it to herself.

This dude looks like he just get off his bed, wrapped himself up in a sheet and went straight to the ballroom.
He couldn't wait so bad to dance that he didn't even bother to put up his tux.

When you love peace...

Isn't that an old picture of Ghandi? I think I remember this picture waaaay from back in the 50s.
A guy took this in the morning. I live in the very immediate area. It's things like this that make me love being home all the more. I see stuff like this every morning I wake up and tramp off to campus. I just wish I had a camera like this fellow did to catch some of these images. [Image: 405764_348465648511524_514666736_n.jpg]
God's frosty nipple.

This is at Turner Falls in Davis, OK. I took this last Spring.
Even if the fellow doesn't catch anything, he at least gets to enjoy the solitude and a peaceful smoke, without 'tobacco Nazis' nagging at him.
