Andrei Chikatilo

I don't know if you ever heard about this stuff. But it may seem "fun".
I wonder was he sociopath.
Was he a victim himself?
Is it due to the famine he experienced in his childhood that was the major factor of his disorder?
Somebody says now he was a "genius of freedom".
Is it possible to cure them (in the future)?
Or it's better to have them shot down on the spot.
Did not know that this is Chikatilo qualified as Science..

Yeah, sure, his story was widely reported, and in fact was a fairly good movie about him, Citizen X. I'm not sure it really deserved IMDB's 7.6 (!), but it surely deserved watching.

If you saw it: any idea on just how accurate it was?

(More later).
I was interested in psychological aspect of his personality. Since psychology is a science I classified this into Science section.

I didn't see the movie. Perhaps, it's worth watching despite usual cliches about life in the USSR.

My feeling was that the movie was surprisingly free from such cliches; if you can get it, you are obviously in a better position to judge. Again, I thought that it was fairly good and convincing.

My 2c on your points.

Quote:I wonder was he sociopath.

If he was not, then who was?

Quote:Was he a victim himself?

Everyone is a victim of *something*. It is an excuse. People who make this excuse should be shot first.

Quote:Is it due to the famine he experienced in his childhood that was the major factor of his disorder?

Given that millions of other people suffered from the same famine and did not become serial killers, the connection seems to be far-fetched.

Quote:Somebody says now he was a "genius of freedom".

Who says? I thought De Sade was the ultimate "genius of freedom"

Quote:Is it possible to cure them (in the future)?

Yes, lobotomy would cure the problem, but is it worth it?

Quote:Or it's better to have them shot down on the spot.

Exactly.
