The Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster
#1
journalstar.com Wrote:FSMism began with an Oregon man's 2006 letter to the Kansas State Board of Education when it was considering intelligent design. Bobby Henderson contended a Flying Spaghetti Monster just as easily could be the master intellect behind intelligent design as any Judeo-Christian deity, and there was just as much scientific evidence for it.

Inmate loses lawsuit to worship Flying Spaghetti Monster

Ok but they should know that FSMism is officialy recognized and registered as an official religion in several countries in Europe and New Zealand. Legaly it's a religion like any other one and met the criterium.

(I hesitated about opening this topic because of Ron: He may be tempted to join this faith... in all seriouseness.)

That's about as legitimate as the cretins in California who won the right for a Klingon-speaking interpreter for their school children.

Wonder what criteria American officials have for a legitimate religion? More than 1 worshipper?

The Pastafarian religion has thousands of members all over the world, including me, now. I recently joined, thought it's not yet official.
It's as legitimate as the 2000 years old christian religion or the 5000 years old judaic religion.

Does it have a Christmas-like holiday celebration like Kwanzaa? ...or Festivus?

Has it ever occurred to anyone that God may actually exist, and that there may actually be one true religion?

Ron,

This thread is about "scientific" deduction for religion and the spaghetti minster has as much validity as any other religion from a scientific angle. That's sort of the point Ron, you can't put God in a bottle and study Him.

If the original kid above wants to insist on that, he can learn like Paul did that God is reality later, it is his choice to do so.

Somehow, I thought Fred was using this thread as a satire.  Was I mistaken? Shock

John,

According to the article Fred posted above, this kid is suing for the "flying spaghetti monster" to be recognized as a religion.

Actually, I go out of my way to check out the articles, especially if I am going to comment on them.  I know that little creep is suing the authorities over some stupidity.  Do you honestly believe for one second that he believes in this "flying spaghetti monster"?  And do you doubt Fred was using this for some 'tongue-in-cheek'?

Sigh........................................ S11

Never mind. Gah

(1) Who says this thread is about anything scientific? Your saying so does not make it so.

(2) God the Creator obviously exists because the universe could not exist without having been created. Therefore there can be no valid science without consideration of the role of the Creator. Any so-called science which proceeds on the basis of a conscious decision to refuse to consider the reality of God, is illogical and stupid. Science means knowledge, so a science without God can only be a knowledge of nothing.

Ron,

It's in the original article. That's what this thread is about. Kid in prison is suing Kansas because he wants the monster as a recognized religion because "it is as scientifically valid as any other religion".

Science could no more figure out God than spiritual lives can figure out how to do algebra.

That's exactely what Pastafarism is about. God exists and it has the shape of a giant spagheti Bolognese and we are absolutely certain of this.
We are not saying that there is no God.

Scientificaly ou probability to be right is at least as high as those who offer another descritption of God.

JohnL, It's more than just satire. One thing is that I'm at odd with the Belgian Catholic Church (but other Catholics are not concerned directly). I can't know what they did with the pedophily and child assassination affairs and still call myself a Belgian Catholic.
I could become a protestant or an orthodox, but I opted for Pastafarism and I don't regret that they don't have a temple close to my home.

And the other thing, I'm done with religious stuffs. With Islam and everything.
Religious beliefs are so bizzar sometimes... Mostly a loss of time.

My daughter is still doing her Comunion and I encourage her because she does it in Lithuania and the Lithuanian Church is not the Belgian Church, but more importantly, it's good that she has a religion in case she will need one later.

Fred,

The late Governor of New York, Mario Cuomo, left the Catholic church over the pedophile issues himself. He held onto his faith in Jesus as the Son of God and at the same time stated the Catholic church had become too corrupt and could no longer receive his allegiance.

I have high regard for Governor Cuomo in this regard, if I was a Catholic, I no longer would be because the higher ups tried to cover this up.

He didn't become another denomination, just remained a follower of Christ's. Unfortunately, from what I hear, to leave that denomination to many Catholics is to leave the faith. I don't think that's a valid view.

The eastern Orthodox are very similar, except they see the atonement different than most( I think more accurately) and they think God eventually will convince us all to believe in Christ, many at the eschaton.

Ah, but believing in Christ is not all that is needed. James 2:19, 20 states: "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" We show our faith by our works. The devils knew full well that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. But that knowledge did not give them a saving faith, which they revealed by manipulating and inciting humans to torture and then crucify Christ. The real question, is whose side are we on?

Palladin, I still believe in the superiority of the teaching of Christ, it's humanity, its pacifism, its good influence... but religions are not only philosophy. They are also a big mass of rituals, supertitions and irrational beliefs.
The champions of it are hindus and tantric budhists. I had a girlfriend who was a tantric budhist believer and since then I seriousely considered abandonning all form of religious cult.

I still kept the ideas thought.

And I'm not against traditional events like christmass or going to the church for a wedding and so on.

Ron... If God created the universe 6000 years ago, then...

And speaking about the Lithuanian Church, have you ever been to the Hill of Crosses? It seems that even the Soviets were not able to destroy it, and they have tried at least twice.
