Graphene Light Bulbs Better Than LED
#1
Quote:A graphene lightbulb with lower energy emissions, longer lifetime and lower manufacturing costs has been launched thanks to a University of Manchester research and innovation partnership.

Graphene Lighting PLC is a spin-out based on a strategic partnership with the National Graphene Institute (NGI) at The University of Manchester to create graphene applications.

The UK-registered company will produce the lightbulb, which is expected to perform significantly better and last longer than traditional LED bulbs.
It is expected that the graphene lightbulbs will be on the shelves in a matter of months, at a competitive cost.

Quote:The dimmable bulb is made with graphene—it has a filament-shaped LED coated in graphene. That poses some advantages. (1) Because of its conductivity the bulb can last longer [than LEDs]. It is said to cut energy use by 10 percent; graphene allows it to conduct electricity and heat more effectively. (2) It is expected to be priced lower than some LED bulbs, said the BBC, and (3) Prof. Bailey told the BBC that "The manufacturing costs are lower and it uses more and more sustainable components."

The article also notes promising results from some medical tests indicating that graphene oxide might be effective in treating some common kinds of cancer.

Ron, graphine is just one of the wonder constructs from pure carbon. I'll have to look it up, but I have a thread devoted to the wonders of carbon. I'm totally sold on the future of carbon. And as you noted above, graphene is also a good conductor of electricity, which has a world of possibilities.
