Coffee Drinkers Live Longer?
#41
I'm not sure the hurling of plague corpses over walls did much damage, because it's transmitted by flees who like to live on rats a lot more, and for them, castle walls are no obstacle. Clever bug that causes the bubonic plague, does something to the stomach of flees, they can suck blood but not digest, and hunger drives them mad. In rats and humans it hijackes the immune system just like HIV. Saint White had not the faintest idea of any of this, how could she based on religious guesswork.
Don't know if you can eat tobacco, but my favourite cigarettes the kretek contain more glove than tobacco, which is a spice. Never mind, they're banned in the US, like almost everything.

And naturally the contemporary medical journals of the time, had all that published and part of the scientific knowledge base. Unfortunately the electron microscope was not invented for another twenty-five years.

But we all know now that "hurling the plague corpses over walls" was more of an 'in your face' gesture...................right?

Bubonic plague can be transmitted by flea bites. It can also be transmitted by aspiration, in which case it is called pneumonic plague--same disease (caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis), but the symptoms advance much more rapidly, because they enter through the lungs and thereby directly into the bloodstream. Also this form of the disease can be spread person-to-person through coughing and sneezing. By the time symptoms present, it is too late even for tetracycline to save the victim. A corpse smashing into the ground or side of a building would dispurse disease-laden aerosols all through the air. Especially if it were windy. Of course, the mortality rate among those who loaded and fired the catapults would probably have been high.

I'll give you 'A' for effort here my friend. But I'm not about to pay such an outrageous price for coffee beans crapped out of the tail end of some tree weasel. S5

I'll fork over the cash for some Jamaica Blue Mountain first.

Only upper middle class white people (usually leftist and people I dislike a lot) drink that sort of coffee and pay that money for it as they can afford to be frivolous.

I'll take black tea, straight.

And I'll stick to my Kona Coffee.

That is how I know you are a middle class white person.

No, a discerning epicure. There is a difference.

I assume you like Darjeeling or Earl Grey, as opposed to Assam, Bai Lin Gong Fu, Ceylon, Keemun, Lapsang Souchong, Nirgiri, or Yunnan. All real tea comes from cuttings from one tea plant. All the rest are herbs.

But really... is there anything better than a good piña colada?

Ever tried the drink that is the favorite south of the border, even in the countries that export coffee? It is Maté. (A kind of tea leaf.) Actually tastes pretty good, has more caffeine than regular tea. Of the conventional teas, green tea is better (it is not "cured" which means allowed to blacken) and has a little less caffeine. Best is "white" tea, which comes from the same plant, just from younger, more mild-tasting leaves. It has even less caffeine than green tea.

Those Indonesian cat-poo coffee sellers are coming under scrutiny, due to mislabeling their product.

No matter what, I'm still not about to pay top bucks to make coffee from animal poop.
