Check out this novel wind generator. There are all sorts of neat little ideas being thought up, and without government subsidies too. Wink

Oh, and don't forget to watch the video too.

It's just another way to make this an individual, home based unit that can help people become independent. What is nice about all these small solutions, is that it allows Individuals to obtain more freedom, and less reliance on the system. It's bottom up instead of top down. I like that. Razz

Cool.

As long a slightly high winds don't cause the ribbon to snap.

And, of course, the larger units don't kill birds.

Today, most large windmills don't kill birds either, because the gearing is such that they gear down to the slowest turning, for the maximun revolutions of the generator. Any bird that gets killed with the newer windmill blades, is a recipient of the Darwin award. Wink

I saw a show on a great new type of windmill that is perfect for cities since it can take wind from any direction, higher winds and lower winds etc. It can be installed vertically or horizontally. Looks kinda like a cork screw. Also it doesn't have the blade noise of more traditional types.

When I started this thread, I had gone and tried to find the thread that held my earlier posts about wind turbines, but couldn't find it. But now that you mention the unusual type turbine, I have gone to YouTube and looked through the list. And it is the Helix Wind Turbine that i was looking for. I had failed to perform a search with the word "Helix". When I did it just popped up right away.

Any way, here is the link again. Helix Wind Turbine. Is this what you were thinking about Maggie?

What I really like about these products is that they are not all that expensive, and they rely on each person to use individually, and not on the large power companies. It gives you more freedom to choose what you want best, uses little area, and is not all that unsightly, as those huge turbines. That is the way to go if you are going to go with wind: small scale. Wink

Close. It did lead me to the one I was thinking of. It also contain the helix feature with outside blades.

I think I'll go to their web site and poke around.

Looks like there is an documentary on their official web site. My computer wouldn't let me play it though.
